13 Feb - Jersey training camp

 

12 players from the Yorkshire Region and 13 from the North West Region head overseas for a training camp in Jersey. This is the second time that the Jersey national coach Craig Gascoyne has invited the two regions over for a joint training camp with the Jersey squad. More information

Sarnian Garry Dodd retained his Deutsche Bank senior table tennis Top 12 title with aplomb today dropping only two games in his six matches at the Table Tennis Centre at F.B. Fields in St.Clement. The final placings however went to the wire with the winner of the head to head between Dodd and Jersey's Grzegorz Frankowski in the final match being crowned the champion. Dodd raced to a 2--0 lead keeping his serves tight and punishing any loose returns. Frankowski battled back to edge the third game but Dodd was not to be denied winning the last game 11/8 to deservedly retain the title. Olympic hopeful Alice Loveridge took the runner up slot on countback from Frankowski having also defeated him in a match that went the full distance with the young Sarnian wrapping up the fifth and deciding game. Jersey's Marcin Jurkiewicz came fourth despite only losing twice during the CI Final and enduring three five game marathons which he successfully converted.

 

"There were some fantastic matches," said JTTA President Chris Band after the tournament. "Garry fully deserved the trophy again with some superlative play in both Islands with just the single loss to Phil Ogier in the Guernsey qualifying rounds and then being unbeaten in Jersey. He was certainly head and shoulders above the others today."
