THE DEUTSCHE BANK JERSEY TABLE TENNIS ASSOCIATION LEAGUE – Week 16 Report

Division 1

St. Joseph A beat Pegasus 7-3.  Although pushed hard by the defending champions, yet another victory for the runaway league leaders. Craig Gascoyne was again in dominant mood, winning his 3 matches, albeit dropping games to both Bruce Gallichan and Josh Band.   Max Tupper also defeated Gallichan 3-2 and Band 3-1 before surprisingly losing his final mach 3-1 to the sprightly Clive Hansford. Scott Cassin overcame the unfortunate Band 11-8 in the 5th, was to also suffer defeat at the hands of Hansford (11-9 in the 5th game) but responded well with a fine 3-1 success over Gallichan. Veterans Hansford and Gallichan gained some consolation by beating the junior pairing of Tupper and Cassin 3-1 in the doubles.  .

CCC A beat  CCC C 8-2    The A side hold on to second spot with Luke Walker unbeaten on the night with hard fought 5 set victories over Tom Morgan, Kay Lefebvre (14-12 in the final set) and Tom Marsay (13-11 in the final set). Bobby Vincent, in for the injured Eugene Ellis was, however, to prove the undoubted star of the show. The unflappable Vincent rolled back the years with a breathtaking display of table tennis, his deflated opponents simply unable to live with his superlative topspin attacking play from both wings. Vincent now finds himself 2nd in the overall individual averages and with The Green Trophy now less than 3 months away, will certainly have given the Selectors food for thought. Hugo Tupper played his part with a win over Morgan and by teaming up with Walker as they took the doubles 3-1 over Marsay and Morgan.

CCC B beat CCC D 8-2 Paul Marshall and Trevor Lefebvre both won their matches without dropping a game against an illness hit D side. Reserve Kelsey Le Maistre enjoyed a fine win over Mark Liron 3-1 but lost to fellow reserve and the rising star that is Oliver Griggs. CCC B beat St Joseph 10-0 The evergreen Malcolm Gallichan again led the way with 3 wins, dropping just the one game Emily Robins.  Gallichan was well backed up by both the imposing figure of Martin Tupper and Paul Hargreaves, the latter defeating Zoë Quinn 3-0 and both Emily and Philip Quinn 3-2   The vastly experienced duo of Tupper and Gallichan rounded off the evening with a 3-0 doubles victory over Philip and Emily.
