Final League report 08/09 14 Apr 09

Division 1  

CCC A beat Pegasus 9-1      CCC took full advantage of an injury and illness hit Pegasus side. Eugene Ellis won his 3, the closest a 3-2 win against Scott Cassin.  Luke Walker came back from 2-1 down to beat Clive Hansford 3-2 and followed this up with comfortable successes against Cassin and Paul Routier. Bobby Vincent overcame the challenges of both Routier and Hansford in straight sets, before losing 3-1 to the much improved Cassin.  Ellis and Walker beat Cassin and Routier 3-1 in the doubles to complete a comprehensive win against the champions. 

St. Joseph A beat St. Joseph B 8-2.    Craig Gascoyne won his 3 without dropping a game to maintain his 100% record for the entire season, a fantastic achievement. Max Tupper finished off his excellent season by defeating both junior rival Josh Band and Tom Quinn 3-1, plus a straight sets victory over Matt Fisher   Tom Morgan lost 3-0 to Band and Quinn but overcame Fisher 3-1. Tupper and Gascoyne beat Band and Quinn 3-0 in the doubles. 

CCC B beat CCC C 8-2   For the B team, Trevor Lefebvre won his 3, dropping just one game to Mark Liron.  However, the match was highlighted by a welcome return to action for CCC stalwart Barry Hardy, who defied his 12 months absence from the game to beat both Liron and Hugo Tupper 3-1. Hardy, not unsurprisingly, simply ran out of gas as he went down 3-2 in his final match of the evening to Glen Brown, Hardy having been 2-0 up.  Kay Lefebvre beat Brown 3-2, lost 3-1 to Liron, before defeating Tupper 3-1, 12-10 in the 4th game.  Kay and Trevor beat Brown and Tupper 3-0 in the doubles.

Division 2  

Victoria B beat Victoria A 7- 3   Kevin O'Sullivan was another to make an impressive return, winning his 3 without dropping a game.  Trevor Motto beat Richardson 3-1 and Ed Le Quesne 3-0 but lost 3-0 to Ewan Le Marquand.  Peter Hinds lost a close opening match 3-0 to Le Quesne, overcame Richardson 3-1 before going down 3-0 in his final match to Le Marquand.   In the doubles Motto and O'Sullivan teamed up for a straight sets victory over Le Quesne and Richardson.  

CCC C beat CCC B 7-3     Sam Elliott beat Helen Liron 3-2 after being 2-1 down.  He then claimed the scalp of Tom Marsay 11-9 in the 5th game of a very high quality match enjoyed by all between two promising young players.  Elliott completed his successful evening with a 3-2 win against Sam Allen, coming back from 2-0 down.   Veteran Jeff Vincent lost 3-0 to Marsay in his opening match but his vast experience helped him to victory over Liron and Allen both 3-0. Paul Hargreaves opened with a 3-1 win against Allen, followed up with a 3-2 success against Liron 3-2 before finding Marsay far too good. Marsay and Liron beat Elliott and Hargreaves in another 5 set tussle

St. Mary beat CCC 6-4.    Darren Le Brun won his 3, all 3-0.  Ken Le Brun also overcame Rex Cardy and Martin Tupper both 3-1 but lost 3-0 to Carol Milnes.    Fred Coote was not so fortunate losing in 5 sets to Cardy and in 4 sets to both Tupper and Milnes.  In the doubles the Le Bruns rolled over the Milnes and Cardy pairing 3-0 to take the points and secure runners up spot in the league for their side.

 

League report 30 Mar 09 week 19

Division 4

CCC A are the Division 4 Champions, the title secured in the league's final round of matches, with success against close rivals Pegasus. Many congratulations to Billy Hickling and Carl Duncan, who like many of the newcomers who performed this year in Division 4, look set for much success in the years ahead.

CCC A beat Pegasus 4-1     Hickling beat Tyler Gosselin 3-0 and Charlie Hansford 3-1, with Duncan also overcoming Gosselin 3-2 but losing 3-0 to Hansford 3-0.  The CCC duo took the doubles 3-0 

Victoria A beat St. Joseph A 5-0.    Victoria took the runners up spot, taking full advantage of Pegasus' reverse. Harry Messervy and Adam Denny both beat David Quinn 3-0 and Timmy Boulter 3-1, the Victoria pair enjoying a 3-1 triumph in the doubles.

St. Joseph B beat Victoria B 3-2 . For Victoria Charlie Hodges beat Andrew Tsang 3-0 and Corey Stewart 3-1.  Daniel Heaven lost 3-2 to Tsang after having been 2-0 up and in straight sets to Stewart.  St. Joseph came back from 2-0 down to beat Victoria 11-9 in the 5th game of the doubles and take the points.  

CCC C beat CCC B 3-2.   2 points for the C side in this basement battle, notwithstanding 2 good wins for the B side's James Job over Nat and James Walwyn. Despite finding the going tough in their first season, both these sides have emerged with a great deal of credit and will continue to benefit from the ongoing development of the large number of junior players now taking part in the sport.

Division 1

Pegasus beat CCC C 9-1       A comfortable victory for the champions with CCC's Hugo Tupper preventing the whitewash with a 3-0 success over Scott Cassin. For Pegasus, the vintage duo of Bruce Gallichan and Clive Hansford were both undefeated, Hansford dropping just the one game to Maggie Liron. Scott Cassin also gained victories over Glen Brown and Liron, both matches 3-1. Gallichan and Hansford took the doubles 3-1 over Tupper and Brown. 

CCC A beat St. Joseph B 6-4.    CCC secured 2 nd spot despite a fine performance from Josh Band whose cunning serves and trademark stunning backhands proved too much for the experienced trio of Eugene Ellis, Bobby Vincent and reserve Martin Tupper. Ellis and Vincent both enjoyed wins over Matthieu Fisher and Andy Ricou 3-0, the dogged Tupper securing success for his side by overcoming Ricou 3-1 in his final match.  Ellis and Vincent beat Band and Ricou 3-0 in the doubles.  

St. Joseph A drew 5-5 with CCC B   For St. Joseph, Craig Gascoyne won his 3, dropping just the one game to Trevor Lefebvre. Max Tupper beat the division's wily veteran Barry Vibert 3-0 but lost 3-1 to the impressive Kay Lefebvre and 3-2 to Trevor Lefebvre.  Thomas Morgan lost 3-1 to the old stager Vibert and 3-0 to both Lefebvres.  Gascoyne and Tupper went 2-1 down before beating Kay and Trevor in the doubles to gain the draw. 

Division 2    

Victoria B beat CCC A 9- 1   Martin Tupper's 3-2 win against Charles Le Sueur in the final match was the only success for CCC.  Trevor Motto won his 3 for the champions, dropping just the one game to Carol Milnes.  David Hole was again impressive beating both Tupper and Rex Cardy 3-0 and Milnes 3-2, with Le Sueur overcoming Milnes and Cardy both 3-1. Motto and Le Sueur teamed up for a 3-1 success over Milnes and Tupper 3-1 in the doubles.

St. Mary drew 5-5 with CCC C.   A night of mixed fortunes for CCC's Sam Elliott who beat Darren Le Brun 3-2 (15-13 in the final set) lost his opening match 3-1 to Fred Coote, before coming back with success against Ken Le Brun, also over 5 sets. It was a long night too for Malcolm Gallichan, with all of his matches going the distance. Gallichan lost to Darren Le Brun but wore down both Ken Le Brun and Coote, the latter 11-9 in the 5th game. Paul Hargreaves drew a blank on the night for CCC, Gallichan and Elliott's win over Darren Le Brun and Coote 3-1 earning their side a share of the points.

CCC B beat Victoria A 6-4      Tom Marsay again won his 3 matches for CCC, although being taken to 5 sets by Tom Le Quesne, Marsay beating both Ewan Le Marquand and Doug Ferguson 3-1.  Helen Lirona also beat Le Quesne 3-1 but lost 3-1 to Le Marquand and 3-0 to Ferguson.  Reserve Kelsey Le Maistre lost 3-1 to Le Marquand and 3-0 to Ferguson but responded well with a straight sets win over the out of sorts Le Quesne 3-0 in her final match. Marsay and Liron beat Le Quesne and Le Marquand 3-1 in the doubles.

League report 20 Mar 09 week 18

Division 1

Following a long and hard fought 3 way battle for the Division 1 crown, this week's round of matches have seen Pegasus retain their title. Congratulations to the team of Dave Cronin, Bruce Gallichan, Scott Cassin and Clive Hansford

Pegasus beat CCC B 7-3   The Champions maintained their recent winning run with Bruce Gallichan winning his 3 matches, dropping just the one game to Barry Vibert    David Cronin beat Martin Tupper 3-0 and Vibert 3-1 but lost, somewhat surprisingly, in 4 close games to Trevor Lefebvre.  Scott Cassin beat the deflated wily veteran Vibert 3-1 and Tupper 3-0 but also lost 3-0 to Lefebvre. Lefebvre and Tupper, the latter raising his game to new levels, beat Cronin and Cassin to win the doubles 3-1. 

St. Joseph A drew 5-5 with CCC A.    This draw between their closest rivals meant the title went the way of Pegasus. Craig Gascoyne maintained his 100% record with wins over Luke Walker 3-1, Bobby Vincent 3-0 and in his final match 3-2 against Eugene Ellis, Gascoyne taking the 5th game 11-7. Max Tupper lost 3-0 to Ellis and 13-11 in the 5th game to Walker but overcame Vincent 3-0 in his final match. Thomas Morgan lost his 3 matches 3-0.   Gascoyne and Tupper beat Ellis and Walker 3-1 in the crucial doubles.  

St. Joseph B beat CCC C 7-3   Tom Quinn and Josh Band were again in fine form, both unbeaten on the night, although Band was taken to a 5 th set by the rapidly improving Hugo Tupper 3-2. Reserve Matthieu Fisher, gaining valuable experience, lost 3-1 to Tupper and in straight sets to Maggie Liron and Glen Brown.  Band and Quinn capped their evening with a 3-2 victory over Tupper and Brown in the doubles.

 

Division 2

Victoria B beat CCC C 6-4.  Trevor Motto starred for the champions, winning his 3 for the loss of only one game to the evergreen Malcolm Gallichan. David Hole beat Paul Hargreaves 3-1 but lost 3-0 to Gallichan and 3-1 to Sam Elliott.  Peter Hinds went 2-0 up against Elliott, before being denied, losing 11-9 in the 5th game, lost to Gallichan before coming back with victory over Hargreaves.  Motto and Hole gained the points for their side with success against Gallichan and Hargreaves.

 

St. Mary beat CCC B 6-4 .   2 points for the Parish side, despite the efforts of rising star, Tom Marsay. Marsay was again in excellent form, his wins including a success over Darren Le Brun 11-8 in the 5th game.  Helen Liron also had a good win on the night, 12-10 in the 4th game against Barry Breuilly.  However, Fred Coote, Breuilly and Le Brun all beat Sam Allen, St. Mary securing their win with Le Brun and Breuilly taking the doubles against Marsay and Liron. 

CCC A beat Victoria A 8-2      Newcomer, Guilain Le Piouffle, won his 3 matches without dropping a game, though the 3rd game against Ed Le Quesne went to 18-16. The prolific Martin Le Tupper also won 3 though dropping games to both Le Quesne and Ewan Le Marquand.  Carol Le Milnes beat reserve Oren Le Marquand 3-0, Ewan Le Marquand 3-2 but lost 12-10 in the 5th game to Le Quesne. Le Quesne and Ewan Le Marquand beat Le Tupper and Le Piouffle 3-1 in the doubles.                                                                                                
Division 4 

The Division 4 title will not be decided until the leading 2 sides meet again in next week's final round of matches.

CCC A beat CCC C 5-0.    Carl Duncan and Billy Hickling were in top form and enjoyed a comfortable victory against their opponents Nat and James Walwyn, despite the fine efforts of the CCC duo

Pegasus beat CCC B 5-0    Likewise Pegasus won with the minimum of fuss, Charlie Hansford didn't drop a game.   Oren Le Marquand beat James Job 3-0 and Liam Vallois 3-1 In the doubles, Tyler Gosselin and Le Marquand beat Job and Vallois 3-0..  

Victoria A beat St. Joseph B 3-2.    Harry Messervy beat Corey Stewart 3-0, 22-20 in the final game and Andrew Tsang 3-0.  Daniel Heaven lost 3-1 to both Stewart and Tsang.  In the double, Victoria lost the first game 15-13 before winning 3-1 to take the match.

Victoria B beat St. Joseph A 3-2 . Charlie Hodges and Dylan Rawlinson both beat the diminutive David Quinn 3-0. Timmy Boulter beat Rawlinson 3-0 and Hodges 3-2.    Victoria won the doubles 3-0 and with it the 2 points. 

 

League report 18 Mar 09 week 17

Division 1

Pegasus beat St. Joseph A   6-4    Despite Craig Gascoyne's 3 wins for St. Joseph, Pegasus took a big step to retaining their title with this hard fought success. Dave Cronin and Bruce Gallichan each won a brace of matches for the victors, Cronin coming back from 2-0 down to defeat Max Tupper, saving match points in the process. In the doubles, Cronin and Gallichan teamed up to beat Gascoyne and Tupper 3-0, Scott Cassin's victory over Thomas Morgan proving to be decisive for the league leaders. 

CCC A beat CCC C 10-0.    Despite the absence of Eugene Ellis, the A side kept their title hopes alive with the victory, Luke Walker, Kevin Allen and the unflappable Bobby Vincent proving too strong on the night for the league's bottom side.

St. Joseph B beat CCC B 6-4   Tom Quinn was in top form for the victors, opening with a 3-2 win against Trevor Lefebvre, coming back from 2-1 down, then beating Kay Lefebvre 3-1 and the not so wily veteran Barry Vibert 3-0.   Quinn was well supported by Josh Band who beat Kay 3-1,Vibert 3-0, before losing his final match 3-2 against Trevor. Reserve Mattieu Fisher lost all his games but not before again impressing and giving a mighty scare to the wily one. Band and Quinn took the crucial doubles 3-1 over Vibert and Trevor Lefebvre. 

Division 2    

CCC B beat Victoria B 8-2 .  A big surprise here, with the young CCC side enjoying success against the Champions, a victory taking CCC off the bottom of the table . CCC's much improved Tom Marsay was again unbeaten, dropping just the one game to Peter Hinds.  For Victoria, David Hole beat Sam Allen 3-0 but lost 3-1 to Helen Liron, with teammate Sam Motto also overcoming Allen.  Marsay and Liron rounded off their fine night's work with a beating Hinds and Hole in straight sets in the doubles.

St. Mary beat Victoria A 7-3.   For St. Mary Darren Le Brun won his 3 dropping a game to Ed Le Quesne.  Fred Coote beat Myles Hawgood, Jack Messervy and Ed Le Quesne all 3-1.  Reserve Anne Coote playing her second match of the evening lost her 3, taking  a game from Messervy.  Le Brun and Fred Coote beat Le Quesne and Messervy 3-0  in the doubles.


CCC A drew 5-5 with CCC C     Guilan de Piouffle was the star of this tight encounter winning his 3 matches for the A team, dropping just one game to Malcolm Gallichan.  Rex Cardy and Carol Milnes both beat Paul Hargreaves 3-0.  However Milnes lost 3-2 to both Gallichan and Sam Elliott, while Cardy lost 3-0 to Gallichan and 3-1 to Elliott.  Gallichan  and Hargreaves beat Cardy and Le Piouffle 3-0 in the doubles, 12 - 10 in the final game, to claim a share of the points

Division 3

The final round of matches was completed this week with St. Josephs A proudly maintaining their perfect 100% record

St Joseph A beat St. Joseph B 4-1    Matthieu Fisher beat both Philip Quinn and Jordan Wykes 3-1.  Michael Fisher lost 3-1 to Quinn but beat Wykes 3-1, with the Fishers taking the doubles 3-1. 

CCC A beat St. Mary B 5-0.    A fine end to a really good season for CCC's sister act, Kelsey Le Maistre coming back from 2-0 down to beat Dot Kierys 11-8 in the 5th game. Jodie beat Dot 3-1.  Both Le Maistre's beat Paul Moullin 3-0 and together won the doubles 3-1 .

St. Mary A beat CCC B 4-1     Vic Roberts beat Emily Robins 3-0 and Jack Mills 3-1  Anne Coote beat Mills 3-1 but lost 11-8 in the 5th game of an excellent match versus Robins.  The St. Mary pair won the doubles 3-0 

Victoria A  beat CCC C 4-1.   Jack Messervy rounded off a fine season with good wins over Ollie Griggs 3-1 and Alex Du Feu 3-0.   Chris Morshead also beat Du Feu 3-0 but lost 3-1 to Griggs.  The Victoria pair won the doubles 3-0.

Division 4  

CCC A beat Pegasus 3-2 to move above them to the top of the table in arguably the match of the week covering all four divisions, a credit to all four players taking part. Carl Duncan beat Charlie Hansford 3-1 and Tyler Gosselin 3-0, with Billy Hickling also defeating he unlucky Hansford 3-2, but lost 3-2 to Gosselin.   The Pegasus duo took the doubles 3-1 but it was not enough to save the match. 


Victoria A beat St. Joseph A 4-1.     Adam Denny beat Timmy Boulton 3-1 and David Quinn 3-0.  Harry Messervy beat Quinn 3-0 and came back from 2-0 down before losing 3-2 to Boulton.  Victoria won the doubles 3-0.


Victoria B beat St. Joseph B 3-2 . Charlie Hodges beat Andrew Tsang 3-0 and Cory Stewart 3-1.  Dylan Rawlinson lost 3-1 to Stewart and 3-0 to Tsang.   Daniel Heaven joined Rawlinson and Victoria won the doubles 3-0, 15-13 in the first game.   

CCC B beat CCC C 4-1   Well deserved first points of the season for the B side, for whom George Gautier beat Nat Walwyn 3-1 and James Walwyn 3-0.  James Job also beat James 3-0 and Nat 3-2. In the doubles, the Walwyns lost the first game but fought back to win 3-1.

 

League report 7 Mar 09 week 16

Division 1

The 3 leading sides all won their matches this week and so with only 4 rounds of matches still remaining, Pegasus maintain their 2 point advantage at the head of the table

Pegasus beat St. Joseph B 7-3    An in form Dave Cronin continued to impress for the league leaders. Cronin opened with a 3-0 win over Josh Band, following up with victories over Tom Quinn 3-1 and reserve Matthieu Fisher 3-0, the latter impressing on his Division One debut.  Bruce Gallichan also beat Fisher and Quinn but lost out 3-1 to Band. Scott Cassin lost 11-9 in the 5th game of a tight encounter against Quinn, got the better of Fisher 3-0 before losing his final match 3-0 to junior rival Band. The strong combination of Gallichan and Cronin took the doubles in straight sets against Band and Quinn.

CCC A beat CCC B 7-3.    A solid win for the A side on a night to forget for the B side's wily veteran Barry Vibert who was starved of any opportunity to dominate with his trademark swashbuckling backhands . Eugene Ellis defeated both Kay Lefebvre and Vibert 3-0, Ellis finally coming out on top against Trevor Lefebvre 11-8 in the 5th game.  The unflappable Bobby Vincent opened with a 3-1 loss to Trevor before winning his other singles 3-0.  Luke Walker beat Vibert 3-0 but then lost 11-8 in the 5th game to Trevor and 3-1 to Kay.  Ellis and Walker beat the despondent Vibert and Trevor Lefebvre 3-0 in the doubles.  


St. Joseph A beat CCC C 8-2.   Another unbeaten performance from Craig Gascoyne, though he was given a scare or two before winning in 4 games against Hugo Tupper.  Max Tupper beat Mark Liron 3-0 and brother Hugo 3-2, but went down 12-10 in the 4th game to Glen Brown, a notable scalp for Brown. A good night also for Tom Morgan, who despite losing 3-0 to Tupper, bounced back with wins over Brown and Liron in straight sets.   In the doubles Morgan and Max Tupper beat Brown and Hugo Tupper 3-1. 

Division 2    

Victoria B beat St. Mary 9-1    Victory for the Division 2 Champions although the match was a lot closer than the score line reflects. Charles Le Sueur just dropped the one game to Darren Le Brun, whereas all of Trevor Motto's wins were by 3-2 and David Hole just beat Le Brun 3-2. The St. Mary pair of Barry Breuilly and Fred Coote beat Hole and Le Sueur, again 3-2, to register the Parish side's richly deserved consolation success. 

Victoria A drew 5-5 with CCC C   For Victoria, newcomer Ewan Le Marquand lost 3-1 to the evergreen Malcolm Gallichan but came out on top against Sam Elliott 3-1 and Paul Hargreaves 3-0.  Doug Ferguson beat Hargreaves and Gallichan 3-2, but found Elliott to be too good, going down 3-1. Alan Richardson lost 12-10 in the 4th game to Elliott 11-6 in the 5th to Hargreaves and 3-0 to Gallichan.  In a very close doubles, Richardson and Le Marquand beat Elliott and Hargreaves 11-9 in the 5th game to gain the draw.   

CCC A  beat CCC B  7-3.     Tom Marsay was again inspired for the for the B team winning his 3 matches, though he had to come back from 2-0 down to beat the dogged Martin Tupper.  Helen Liron lost all her 3 singles matches, with reserve Kelsey Le Maistre losing 3-0 to Carole Milnes and Rex Cardy and 3-2 to the street wise Tupper. In a close doubles Tupper and Milnes beat Liron and Marsay 3-2.                                                                                                         
Division 3   

St Joseph A beat Victoria 3-2   The champions again had Matthieu Fisher to thank as they maintained their 100% record. Matthieu beat Chris Morshead 3-2 and Jack Messervy 3-1, with brother Michael Fisher, although losing 3-0 to Messervy, securing the points with a 5 set victory over the unfortunate Morshead 3-2. The Fishers lost the doubles 3-0 to the Victoria duo.

CCC A beat St. Mary A 4-1.    Reserve Billy Hickling starred on his division 3 debut with wins over both Vic Roberts and Anne Coote 3-1.  Jodie Le Maistre lost 11-9 in the 5th game against Roberts before defeating Coote 3-0.  The CCC youngsters beat the St. Mary pair 3-0 in the doubles.

CCC B beat St. Mary B  4-1.   A good win for CCC with Emily Robins in fine form and proving too good for Paul Moullin 3-1 and Dot Kierys 3-0.. Alex Bolton returned to action with a 3-2 win over Moullin and a 3-2 loss to Kierys. The CCC pair won the doubles 3-2.


St. Joseph B beat CCC C 4-1.    A welcome return to action for esquire Gordon Bullock against his much younger opponents. Jordan Wykes beat Bullock 3-0 and Carl Duncan 3-2, with Philip Quinn also overcoming Duncan 3-0 but losing 3-1 to the sprightly Bullock.  Wykes and Quinn lost the first game but took the doubles 3-1

Division 4

The 3 way tussle for the title looks like going to the wire as the teams in questions all enjoyed emphatic victories this week

Pegasus beat Victoria B 5-0 .  Tyler Gosselin beat Charlie Hodges 3-0 and Daniel Heaven 3-1 with Charlie Hansford also overcoming Hodges 3-1 and Heaven 3-0.  Oren Le Marquand joined Tyler to win the doubles 3-2.

CCC A beat St. Joseph B 5-0 .  The impressive Billy Hickling won both matches 3-0.  Carl Duncan beat Corey Stewart 3-1 and Andrew Tsang 3-0.  The CCC pair won the doubles 3-0. 

Victoria A beat CCC C 5-0   Adam Denny and Harry Messervy did not drop a game against the duo of Nate and James Walwyn.

St. Joseph A beat CCC B 3-2.   The closest encounter of the week saw Timmy Boulton beat George Gautier 3-1 and James Job 3-0.  David Quinn lost 3-0 to Job and 3-1 to Gautier.   However, in the decisive doubles, the St. Joseph pair, after losing the first game, came back to win 3-1.

 

League report 27 Feb 09 week 15

Division 1

Pegasus beat CCC A 6-4.  Defending champions, Pegasus, stepped up their bid to retain their crown with this tight and extremely hard fought victory over their nearest rivals. Dave Cronin starred for Pegasus, opening up with a 3-2 win over Luke Walker, then defeating Eugene Ellis in 3 close games and finally overcoming CCC's Bobby Vincent in a titanic struggle, Cronin coming back from 2 games down and taking the last 2 games 14-12 and 16-14.  Bruce Gallichan also enjoyed success against an out of sorts Walker, but lost to both Ellis 3-1 and Vincent 3-0. Scott Cassin lost 12-10 in the 5th game to Vincent but crucially beat Walker 3-0, before losing his final match 3-0 to Ellis. In the doubles Gallichan and Cronin teamed up and enjoyed a 3-1 victory over Ellis and Vincent 3-1.

St. Joseph A beat St. Joseph B 8-2.   The St. Josephs A side moved into joint second place with Craig Gascoyne again impressing with 3 straight set victories. Max Tupper's fine run of form continued. Tupper enjoyed excellent wins over Tom Quinn 3-0 and junior rival, Josh Band 3-1, in his last match Tupper coming back from 2-1 down to claim the scalp of Daisy Duke. Tom Morgan also beat Duke 3-0, but found both Band and Quinn to be too strong on the night.   In the doubles, the ever improving pairing of Gascoyne and Tupper beat Band and Quinn 3-0. 

CCC B beat CCC C 7-3.    A superb night for reserve Tom Marsay as he won his 3 beating Glen Brown and Mark Liron 3-1, Marsay's night completed with a 3-2 win over Hugo Tupper 11-9 in the deciding 5 th game.  Trevor Lefebvre beat Liron 3-0 and Brown 3-1 but was beaten 3-1 by Tupper, a great result for the league's youngest player. Although losing his final match 3-2 to Mark Liron, the battle hardened wily veteran Barry Vibert demonstrated the benefit of both stamina and experience with wins over his much younger rivals, Tupper 3-2 and Brown 3-1. Tupper and Brown did however take the doubles 3-0 against Lefebvre and Vibert.

Division 2    

Victoria B beat Victoria A 7-3.   The B side are now 8 points clear following this week's round of matches and the title must surely now be theirs. Charles Le Sueur beat both Ed Le Quesne and Alan Richardson in 3 close games, but was pegged back by the diminutive Doug Ferguson who came back strongly taking the 4th game 14-12 and final game 11-8.  David Hole proved to be the mainstay of the B side's success with wins over Richardson 3-0, Ferguson 3-1 and 3-2 over Le Quesne, coming back from 2-1 down. Peter Hinds lost 3-0 to both Ferguson and Le Quesne but overcame Richardson 3-2.   In the doubles, Hole and Le Sueur beat Ferguson and Le Quesne in 5 close games.

CCC A beat St. Mary 6-4.     CCC joined St. Mary in second place after this win, despite the efforts of St Mary's Darren Le Brun. Le Brun came back from 2-1 down to defeat Carol Milnes 11-8 in the 5 th game, Le Brun also proving too good for both Martin Tupper and Rex Cardy 3-1.  However teammate Fred Coote lost 3-1 to both Cardy and Tupper and 3-2 to Milnes, with Barry Breuilly also beaten by Tupper and Cardy before enjoying a deserved success against Milnes 12-10 in the 5th game. The crucial deciding doubles was taken by the duo of Tupper and Cardy after 5 close sets against Le Brun and Breuilly. 

CCC C beat CCC B 7-3.     In keeping with his fine run of form, Tom Marsay again impressed for the B side winning his 3 matches without dropping a game.   However, the evergreen Malcolm Gallichan, Paul Hargreaves and Sam Elliott all defeated Sam Allen and Helen Liron as the C side ran out fairly comfortable winners. In a close doubles, the partnership of experience and youth in the form of Gallichan and Elliott beat Allen and Marsay 3-2

Division 3   

St Joseph A beat St Mary A . 3-2   The league leaders traveled north and returned with 2 hard earned points. Matthieu Fisher, playing with a lot of confidence, defeated both Anne Coote and Vic Roberts 3-1, whereas brother Michael struggled against his more experienced opponents, losing 3-1 to Coote and 3-0 to Roberts.  The Fishers took the deciding doubles 3-1.

CCC A  beat Victoria 4-1.  CCC's sister act duo retained their hold on 2 nd position, Jodie Le Maistre coming back from 2-0 down to beat Chris Morshead and from 2-1 down to beat Jack Messervy.  Kelsey Le Maistre won both her singles 3-1 with the Victoria pairing deservedly taking something out of the match winning the doubles 3-1.

CCC B  beat St. Joseph B 3-2  An entertaining and closely fought match involving 4 of the Island's up and coming junior players. For St. Joseph Jordan Wykes beat both Emily Robins and Jack Mills 3-1. However Philip Quinn lost 3-1 to Mills and 11-9 in the 5th game to Robins.  The CCC pair, Robins and Mills won the doubles 3-1 with the last two games being 14-12, 13-11. 

St. Mary B beat CCC C 3-2.  A battling Dot Kierys took centre stage, coming back from 2-1 down to beat Olly Meaton 12-10 in the 5th game and Alex Du Feu 11-9 in the 5th game.   Paul Moullin lost 3-2 to Meaton and 3-0 to Du Feu 3-0.  The St. Mary pair lost the first game but won the doubles 3-1 to take the match.

Division 1

Pegasus beat CCC C 10-0 .    Pegasus remain head of the table following this emphatic victory over the Division's bottom side . Bruce Gallichan led the way winning his 3 matches without the loss of any games. Clive Hansford maintained his impressive position in the averages as he beat both Glen Brown and Hugo Tupper 3-1 before overcoming Mark Liron 3-2    Scott Cassin too enjoyed a successful evening as he claimed the scalps of Tupper and Liron, both 3-1 and Brown 3-0.  Gallichan and Cassin completed the whitewash with a 3-1 win over Tupper and Brown in the doubles.  

CCC A beat St. Joseph B 6-4.  CCC remain on the same points as Pegasus, though their match proved to be a much tighter affair against the unpredictable St. Josephs side. Eugene Ellis again starred for CCC with wins over Tom Quinn, Daisy Duke and Josh Band, the latter an extremely tough 5 set victory.  Luke Walker enjoyed an excellent 3-1 success over Band, one of his main junior rivals, defeated Duke 3-0 before losing out 13-11 in the 5th game to Quinn. Reserve Kevin Allen was to, however, gain the crucial victory for CCC as he outgunned Duke 3-0.  In the doubles Band and Quinn proved to be too good for Ellis and Walker winning 3-2 after having been 2-1 down.

St. Joseph A beat CCC B 7-3.   St. Josephs remain in 3 rd place, two points off the leaders , Craig Gascoyne maintaining his 100% record with the minimum of fuss. Max Tupper was also in sparkling form beating Barry Vibert 3-0 and both Trevor Lefebvre and Kay Lefebvre 3-1.   Tom Morgan lost his 3 matches for St. Josephs but not before creating a scare or two for the wily veteran Vibert. In the doubles Gascoyne and Tupper rounded off their night beating Vibert and Kay Lefebvre 3-0 

Division 2    

Victoria B beat CCC A 8 - 2.   Victoria's march to the Division 2 title continued with Trevor Motto again winning his 3, opening with a 3-0 win against Carol Milnes before finding both Martin Tupper 3-2 and Guilan de Piouffle much tougher opponents, Motto prevailing over 5 sets in each case. Charles Le Sueur was another in good form beating Tupper 3-0, Milnes 3-0 and Le Piouffle 3-2 after being 2-1 down. David Hole beat Le Piouffle 3-0 before losing in 4 close games to Milnes and 11-8 in the 5th game to Tupper.    In the doubles, Motto and Le Sueur beat Milnes and Le Piouffle 3-1  

St. Mary beat CCC C  9-1.     Malcolm Gallichan's 12-10 win in the 5th game over Barry Breuilly was the sole success for CCC as the Parish side kept their hold on second position. Paul Hargreaves did take Darren Le Brun to a 5th game as did Sam Elliott against Ken Le Brun but in the main this was the Parish side's night, with Darren Le Brun and Breuilly completing the night with a 3-0 doubles success over Elliott and Hargreaves.

CCC B beat Victoria A   7 - 3.     The division's youngest side gained only their second win of the season with junior Tom Marsay continuing to impress dropping just the one game to Alan Richardson.  Sam Allen returned to something like his best form with wins over Tom Le Quesne 3-1 and Myles Hawgood 3-0. Richardson proved too good for Allen over 4 tight sets. Helen Liron beat Hawgood 3-1, before losing 3-0 to Richardson and 3-1 to Le Quesne.    In the doubles Marsay and Allen beat Le Quesne and Richardson 3-1.  

Division 3

St Joseph A beat St Mary B . 4-1   St. Josephs continue to dominate with their 11 th straight victory, St. Mary however not going down without a fight. Matthieu Fisher beat Paul Moullin 3-1 and Dot Kierys 3-2 with brother Michael also enjoying a hard fought 3-2 success against Kierys 3-2, but losing 14-12 in the 5th game to Moullin, a well deserved consolation for the Parish side. The Fishers came back from 2-1 down to take the doubles 3-2.

 CCC A beat St. Joseph B 4-1.  CCC remain in second place, with Jodie Le Maistre in good form with as she gained straight set victories. Sister Kelsey also overcame Philip Quinn 3-0 but lost out 3-1 to Jordan Wykes. The Le Maistre sisters joined forces to take the doubles 3-0.

Victoria beat CCC B 4 - 1   A good win for Victoria for whom Chris Morshead was in excellent form. Morshead beat Emily Robins 3-1 and the diminutive Jack Mills 14-12 in the 5th game, this following an entertaining and hard fought encounter.   Jack Messervy beat Robins 3-0 but lost 3-2 to Mills who worked hard for and deserved this success. The Victoria pair won the doubles 3-0.

CCC C beat St. Mary A 5-0 ( St. Mary had one player unavailable, though no detail available)

Division 4

Pegasus and CCC A remain equal on points at the head of the table following the latest round of matches

Pegasus beat St. Joseph B 5-0 with neither Tyler Gosselin nor Oren Le Marquand dropping a game in both singles and doubles against the St. Josephs duo of Corey Stewart and Jacob.

CCC A beat Victoria B 5-0     CCC also enjoyed a comfortable victory, Billy Hickling proving too strong for Dylan Rawlinson 3-0 and Charlie Hodges 3-1, with team mate Carl Duncan beating Hodges 3-2 and Rawlinson 3-0. In the doubles, the CCC pairing won 3-0.

Victoria A beat CCC B 5-0  Victoria remain in hot pursuit of the leaders, Harry Messervy defeating both George Gautier and James Job 3-0.  Adam Denney beat Gautier 3-0 and Job 3-1, the doubles also going the way of Victoria in 3 straight games.

St. Joseph A beat CCC C 3-2 Jack Harrison was the star turn for St Joseph beating Nat Walwyn and James Walwyn 3-0.    However David Quinn lost in 4 close games to James and 3-0 to Nat   The crucial doubles was taken by St. Josephs with a 3-1 score line

League report 1 Feb 09 week 13

Division 1

CCC A drew 5-5 with St. Joseph A.  CCC came back from 5-3 down to retain their position at the head of the table, despite Craig Gascoyne maintaining his perfect league record . Gascoyne beat Bobby Vincent in 3 close games, dropped the first game 16-14 before overcoming Eugene Ellis 3-1 and then gained a straight sets success over Luke Walker.   C.I. Top 12 Junior Max Tupper beat fellow junior Walker 3-1 but lost out 3-1 to the unflappable Vincent and 3-0 to Ellis.  Thomas Morgan gained a well-deserved consolation game against Vincent. In the crucial doubles, Gascoyne and Tupper teamed up to defeat Ellis and Walker 3-0.

Pegasus beat CCC B 8-2 .    Pegasus are now equal on points with CCC A following this comfortable victory. Bruce Gallichan won his 3, dropping just the one game in his final match to Kay Lefebvre.  Clive Hansford matched the performance of Gallichan beating both reserves Tom Marsay and Martin Tupper 3-0 and coming back from 2-1 down to beat Lefebvre 3-2.   Scott Cassin lost 3-0 to Lefebvre and 3-1 to Marsay, an excellent result for the latter, before overcoming Tupper in 3 close games. The vintage duo of Gallichan and Hansford beat Lefebvre and Marsay 3-2 in a very tight doubles encounter.

St. Joseph B beat CCC C 8-2.    Josh Band continued his fine run of form beating fellow juniors Hugo Tupper 3-0 and Glen Brown, finishing off his evening with a hard fought 3-1 success over Mark Liron. Tom Quinn, who too has enjoyed a good run of late, fared likewise dropping just the one game to Brown 3-1.  Daisy Duke lost 3-0 to Liron and 3-1 to Tupper, however came back strongly to gain a deserved win over Brown 3-2, Duke having been 2-1 down.    Band and Quinn went 2-0 up in the doubles before finally beating Brown and Tupper 11-9 in the deciding set.   

Division 2    

Victoria B beat CCC C   6-4      The league leaders had to work hard for their latest victory, Trevor Motto once again leading the way with 3 straight set victories. Motto's teammate, David Hole, was also in good form, beating Malcolm Gallichan 3-1, Paul Hargreaves 3-0 before losing out 3-1 to Sam Elliott.  Peter Hinds also beat an out of sorts Gallichan 3-0, but succumbed to both Hargreaves and Elliott, each match going the distance. In the doubles, Hargreaves and Elliott beat Motto and Hole 3-0.  

St. Mary beat CCC B 6-4.      The Parish side remains in second place despite being given a major scare by the league's bottom side for whom Tom Marsay continues to impress. Marsay gained comfortable victories over much more experience opponents, namely Barry Breuilly 3-0, Fred Coote 3-1 and finally Darren Le Brun 3-1.  Sam Allen also gained an excellent win over Breuilly 3-2, but lost in straight sets to both Le Brun and Coote.  Helen Liron was not so fortunate as her play on the night did not bring the rewards it deserved as she suffered 3 close defeats against her elder rivals. Le Brun and Breuilly beat Marsay and Liron 3-0 in the crucial doubles to secure the points.

CCC A beat Victoria A   8 - 2.     The very steady Carol Milnes beat Myles Hawgood and Alan Richardson 3-0, Milnes rounding off her evening with a marathon victory over Ed Le Quesne, 12 -10 in the deciding 5 th set. Martin Tupper also proved too good on the night for Richardson 3-1 and Hawgood 3-0, but lost out 3-1 to the wily esquire Le Quesne.  Rex Cardy also lost 3-1 to Le Quesne in his opening match, however came back with successes over Richardson 3-1 and Hawgood 3-0.   In the doubles Milnes and Cardy just got the better of Le Quesne and Richardson over 5 close games, the CCC pair taking the final set 12-10.  

 

Division 3

 St. Joseph A beat CCC A 3-2     Matthieu Fisher starred in the battle of the leagues leading sides as he beat both Kelsey Le Maistre 3-0 and Jodie Le Maistre 3-1, 12-10 in the 4th game.  Brother Michael, however, lost 3-1 to Kelsey and 3-0 to Jodie.  In the crucial doubles the Fishers saved 3 match points as they won 14-12 in the 5th game, to win a very close match and maintain their side's 100% record.

CCC B beat CCC C 3-2 .  Emily Robins was in fine form as she gained 2 well earned and deserved successes over Oliver Griggs 3-2 and Olly Meaton 3-0.  Jack Mills beat Meaton 3-1 before losing in 4 sets to the rapidly improving Griggs    In the doubles Griggs and Meaton lost the first game 14-12, before coming back strongly to gain some consolation.

St Mary A beat Victoria 4 - 1 with Vic Roberts leading the way, Roberts enjoying 3-1 wins over Chris Morshead and Jack Merservy.  Anne Coote beat Morshead with a balanced 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 result, but lost to Merservy in the closest match of the evening 11-7, 13-15, 4-11, 11-5, 11-5. The St Mary pair won the doubles 3-0.

St Josephs B gained a respectable 4-1 win over St Mary B . Jordan Wykes was another in good form with straight set wins over Dotty Kierys and Paul Moullin. Philip Quinn also beat Moulin but lost to Kierys in 4 tights sets, the latter taking the deciding 4th set 14-12. The young St Josephs pair gained a very good 3 -1 win in the doubles.

Division 4   

The battle for the league continues to be very hard fought with 3 sides, CCC A, Pegasus and Victoria A all tied at the top of the table on 14 points. This week each of the top sides enjoyed emphatic victories

CCC A beat Victoria B 5-0     Billy Hickling beat Dylan Rawlinson and Charlie Hodges 3-0, with team mate Carl Duncan dropping just the one game against Hodges. The CCC pair took the doubles 3-1.

Pegasus beat St. Joseph B 5-0 The strong combination of Tyler Gosselin and Oren Le Marquand did not drop a game in both singles and doubles against Corey Stewart and Andrew Tsang.

Victoria A beat CCC B 5-0 Victoria emulated the performance of Pegasus with Adam Denney and Harry Messervy beating both George Gautier and James Job 3-0 in singles and combining to take the doubles in 3 close sets.

St. Joseph A beat CCC C 3-2  The week's tightest match saw CCC's Timmy Boulter overcoming both Nat Walwyn and James Walwyn 3-0.    However David Quinn lost in 4 close games to James and 3-0 to Nat, thereby setting up the crucial doubles with the St. Joseph's duo just coming out on top, taking the 5 th and deciding set 12-10

 

League report 23 Jan 09 week 12

Division 1

CCC A beat CCC C 8-2.   CCC A retain top spot with this victory over the league's bottom side. Eugene Ellis was unbeaten with comfortable wins over Glen Brown 3-1 and both Mark Liron and Jeff Vincent in straight sets. Ellis was well supported by Bobby Vincent who also beat Liron and Vincent 3-0, before overcoming Brown in five tight sets. Brown gained a deserved success on the night with a fine 3-1 victory over the A side's Luke Walker. Brown also teamed up with Liron as they took the doubles 3-2 over Vincent and Walker.

Pegasus beat St. Joseph A 7 - 3     Pegasus took full advantage of an under strength St. Josephs side for whom Max Tupper was unavailable due to illness . For St. Josephs Craig Gascoyne again won his 3, dropping just the one game in a tight tussle with Scott Cassin. Tom Morgan was not so fortunate as he lost 3-0 to Dave Cronin, 3-1 to Bruce Gallichan and 12-10 in the 5th game to Cassin after being 2-1 up, Cassin saving 3 match points in the process.   Gallichan and Cronin beat Gascoyne and Morgan 3-0 in the doubles.  

St. Joseph B beat CCC B 7-3.    Another defeat for the CCC B side, a team clearly missing the immense presence of their inspirational wily veteran Barry Vibert. Josh Band returned to something like his very best form beating Trevor Lefebvre 3-0, Martin Tupper 3-0 and Kay Lefebvre 3-1. Tom Quinn was another in good form beating Tupper 3-0, Kay Lefebvre 3-1 and Trevor Lefebvre 3-2. Not such a good night however for Daisy Duke who lost all 3 of her matches including a 3-1 reverse against her main rival Kay Lefebvre. Band and Quinn rounded off their efforts by beating the Lefebvres 3-1 in the doubles.  


Division 2    

Victoria B beat CCC B   8 - 2      Another routine victory for the league leaders, with Trevor Motto starring as he gained straight set wins over Helen Liron and Sam Allen 3-0, before overcoming the rapidly improving junior, Tom Marsay 3-2, Motto coming back from 2-0 down.  David Hole lost 3-1 to Marsay but came back with successes against Allen 3-1 and Liron 3-0.    Peter Hinds beat Allen 3-0 and Liron 3-1 but was another to find Marsay to be good going down in 4 sets. Motto and Hinds took the doubles in 3 close games against Liron and Allen. 

CCC A beat CCC C 8-2.  The score does not reflect an extremely tight match containing many close games.   For the A side the never say die Martin Tupper beat Same Elliott 3-2 after being 2-1 down, then beat Paul Hargreaves 3-2 after being 2 games down. A fatigued Tupper completed his evening with a 3-1 win over Malcolm Gallichan, the 3rd and 4 th game scores being 22-20 and 12-10 respectively.  Rex Cardy beat Hargreaves 3-0 and Gallichan 15-13 in the 5th game after being 2-1 down, but lost 3-2 to Elliott after being 2-1 up.  Carol Milnes enjoyed victories over Gallichan and Hargreaves, but lost out to Elliott all 3 matches being over 4 sets. In the doubles Milnes and Tupper beat Elliott and Hargreaves 3-1. Allegedly Tupper slept very well!  

St. Mary beat Victoria A 9-1       Barry Breuilly and Darren Le Brun were in good form for the Parish side who remain joint second with CCC A. Both were unbeaten Le Brun, dropping just one game to Ed le Quesne, with Breuilly even more impressive as he enjoyed 3 straight set victories.  Fred Coote also beat Myles Hawgood 3-0 and Jack Messervy in 3 close games before losing 3-0 to Ed Le Quesne 3-0, who provided Victoria with a consolation victory.  Le Brun and Breuilly also overcame Le Quesne and Messervy 3-1 in the doubles.                                                                                                           
Division 3 

St. Joseph A beat CCC B 4-1    The league leaders continued their march to the title in a match that contained table tennis of a very high standard with many excellent rallies. Matthieu Fisher beat Emily Robins and Jack Mills both 3-1 and in each case in 4 very close games.  Michael Fisher was 2-0 up before losing to Mills 3-2, the 4th game 15-13.  He then was 2-0 up against Robins before eventually edging out his opponent 3-2.   The Fishers won the doubles 3- 1

CCC A beat CCC C  3-2 .   The Le Maistre sisters remain in second place, Kelsey and Jodie Le Maistre both beating Alex Du Feu 3-1 but both finding Olly Meaton to be too good on the night, Meaton winning 3-1 in each case. In the crucial doubles, Jodie and Kelsey won 3-0 to take the match and the points.

St. Mary A beat St. Joseph B  4-1 .   A tale of experience overcoming youth as the versatile Vic Roberts beat both Philip Quinn and Jordan Wykes 3-1.  Anne Coote also overcame Quinn 3-1. but lost out 3-2 to Wykes, 11-9 in the final game.  The St. Mary pair won the doubles 3 - 1.

Victoria beat St. Mary B 5-0 .  A resounding victory for Victoria, Chris Morshead leading the way with success against Dot Kierys 3-0 and Paul Moullin 3 - 2.  Jack Messervy won both his matches 3-0 though the score lines were a little unkind on his opponents. The Victorians finished off their evening with a 3-0 doubles victory.

Division 4 

CCC A beat Victoria A 5-0. Pride of place goes to CCC who moved to the top of the table with an emphatic albeit hard fought win over their previously unbeaten opponents. Billy Hickling beat Harry Messervy and Adam Denney both 3-2.   Carl Duncan beat Messervy 3-1 and Denny 3-2 after being 2-0 down.  In the doubles the CCC team won 3-0.

Victoria B beat CCC B 5-0 . Dylan Rawlinson beat both George Gautier and James Job 3-1, losing the second game each time.  Daniel Heaven lost the first game each time before also winning both matches 3-1   Charlie Hodges then partnered Rawlinson as the Victorians won the doubles 3-0. 


St. Joseph B beat CCC C 5-0.  The St. Josephs duo continue to show improved form. Andrew Tsang beat Nat Walwyn 3-0 and James Walwyn 3-1, with teammate Corey Stewart defeating both Walwyns 3-0.   The doubles was much closer with St. Joseph winning 3-2. 

Pegasus were conceded a 5-0 win by St. Joseph A who had one player away in UK and another absent through illness.

League report 16 Jan 09 week 11

Division 1

The league's leading 3 sides all came out on top in this week's round of matches.

CCC A beat CCC B 7-3.    The A side maintained their position at the top of the table, taking advantage of a weakened B side, missing their injury hit inspirational wily veteran Barry Vibert. Eugene Ellis led the way with wins over Trevor and Kay Lefebvre 3-1 and reserve Martin Tupper 3-0.  Luke Walker lost, in what was one of the matches of the season, 14-12 in the 5th set to Trevor Lefebvre, Walker having been 2-1 up, but beat both Kay and Tupper 3-0.  Bobby Vincent also beat Tupper in straight sets and followed this up with a 3-1 success over Kay before finding Trevor too good over 4 sets. The Lefebvres gained deserved consolation with a surprising 3-1 doubles victory over Ellis and Walker.

St. Joseph A beat CCC C 8-2.     St. Josephs remain equal on points with CCC , Craig Gascoyne and Max Tupper again unbeaten, this despite the presence of OAP celebrity Jeff Vincent as reserve for the league's n bottom side. Gascoyne enjoyed 3 straight set victories, with Tupper dropping just the one game to brother, Hugo. Tom Morgan also beat Vincent 3-0, but lost in straight sets to both Hugo Tupper and Mark Liron.  Morgan paired up with Max Tupper as they saw off the challenge of Hugo Tupper and Liron 3-0 in the doubles.  

Pegasus beat St. Joseph B 8-2     Pegasus remain just one point off the joint leaders following this victory over the potentially dangerous St. Josephs B side . Bruce Gallichan defeated Daisy Duke 3-0, Josh Band 11-9 in the 5th set of another tight match and Tom Quinn 3-1.  Dave Cronin matched the performance of his older teammate, beating both Duke and Quinn 3-0, before also overcoming Band in 5 sets. Scott Cassin enjoyed a victory over Duke, but lost out to Band and Quinn, in each case by a 3-1 score line. Gallichan and Cronin rounded off their successful night with a straight sets doubles win over Band and Quinn.  

Division 2  

Victoria B beat St. Mary 8-2     Victoria now hold a 6 point advantage at the top of the table following this comfortable victory over their nearest rivals. David Hole won his 3 matches, coming back from 2-1 down to beat Darren Le Brun in the opening match. Hole later defeated both Barry Breuilly 3-1 and Ken Le Brun 3-0. Trevor Motto was even more impressive, beat Ken Le Brun and Breuilly 3-0 and Darren Le Brun 3-1.  Charles Le Sueur also claimed the scalps of Breuilly 3-0 and Ken Le Brun 3-1 but found Darren too good on the night over 5 close sets. In the doubles, Hole and Le Sueur lost 3-1 to Darren Le Brun and Breuilly.

CCC A beat CCC B   6-4.    The A side are now equal on points with the Parish side, but the plaudits belong to Tom Marsay of the B side. Junior Marsay was unbeaten with wins over newcomer Guilan de Piouffle, Martin Tupper and Rex Cardy 3-1. In the doubles, Marsay teamed up with Sam Allen as they beat Cardy and de Piouffle 3-0. However, Marsay's teammates Sam Allen and Helen Liron both found their much more experienced opposition to be too steady and were unable gain their side at least a deserved share of the points.

CCC C beat Victoria A 7- 3        An extremely close match saw Malcolm Gallichan again in fine form for CCC, beating Alan Richardson and Jack Messervy 3-0 and Ed le Quesne 3-1 in the final match. Sam Elliott lost his opening match 3-0 to Le Quesne, before bouncing back with wins over Richardson 3-0 and Messervy 3-1.  Paul Hargreaves had to save match points against Messervy before winning 13-11 in the 5th game, then beat Richardson 3-1 but found Le Quesne too strong over 4 sets. Le Quesne and Richardson beat Elliott and Hargreaves 12 -10 in the 5th game of the doubles.

Division 3

St. Joseph A beat CCC C 5 - 0.   The league leaders started the year where they left off though the score line was a little harsh on their opponents. Matthieu Fisher just beat Ollie Griggs 3-2 and followed this up with a 3-0 victory over Alex Du Feu 3-0 in close games.  Michael Fisher also played well with wins over Griggs 3-1 and Du Feu 3-0.  The Fishers took the doubles 3-0.

CCC A beat CCC B 5 - 0 .   CCC A, represented by the improving Le Maistre sisters remain in second spot. Jodie beat both Jack Mills and Emily Robins 3-0, with Kelsey also winning both her matches, dropping just the one game to Emily   In the doubles, following a tight opening game (13-11) Jodie and Kelsey ran out comfortable winners.

Victoria beat St. Joseph B 4 - 1 .  This was a tightly fought affair despite the final result. Chris Morshead took part in 2 very close matches with mixed results, a 3-1 success over Philip Quinn 3-1 followed by a defeat in 5 sets against Jordan Wykes.  Jack Messervy, arguably now the league's strongest player, won both his matches, dropping just the one game to Wykes.  The Victorians rounded off their evening with a straight sets doubles victory

Division 4 

Victoria A beat Victoria B 4-1   Victoria A remain top of the league but only just in probably the closest match of the entire week in all 4 divisions. Adam Denney beat Dylan Rawlinson 17-15 in the 5th game and came back from 2 games down to beat Charlie Hodges 3-2. Harry Messervy also defeated both Rawlinson 3-2 and Hodges 3-1.  In the doubles, the Victoria B team came back from 2 games down to win 12 -10 in the 5th game to gain a very much deserved consolation win.

Pegasus beat CCC C 5-0 to stay just 2 points behind the leaders with Oren Le Marquand and Charlie Hansford not dropping a game in singles or doubles in their matches against James and Nate Walwyn.

CCC A beat CCC B 5-0 and in doing so remain joint second. Like Pegasus, the CCC A duo of Billy Hickling and Carl Duncan proved too strong for George Gautier and Tyler Gosselin with a clean sweep of straight set victories.

St. Joseph B beat St. Joseph A 4-1.  For the A side, Andrew Tsang beat David Quinn 3-2 and Timmy Boulter 3-1.  Corey Stewart gained an impressive 3-0 win over Quinn 3-0, before losing out to Boulter, the B team also taking the doubles 3-0.

 

League report 9 Jan 09 week 10

Division 1

The top 4 sides met in the opening round of matches following on from the Xmas and New Year break and as a result, there has again been a change at the head of the table

CCC A defeated Pegasus 7 - 3 to once again go back to the top of the table . For CCC, Junior Luke Walker produced, without doubt, his best performance of the season beating Clive Hansford 3 - 0 in the opening match, then Scott Cassin 12-10 in the 5th game, Walker saving a match point in doing so, before rounding off his evening with a 3-2 success over Dave Cronin. Eugene Ellis also gained wins over Cassin 3-1 and Hansford 3-0 but lost out 3-1 to Cronin. Bobby Vincent defeated Cassin 3-1 but succumbed to both Hansford and Cronin, each match going the full 5 sets. Ellis and Walker completed a successful night for CCC with a 3-1 doubles victory over Cronin and Hansford.  

St. Joseph A beat St. Joseph B 7 - 3.    The A side joined CCC at the top of the table following this victory, thanks to the efforts of the unbeaten Craig Gascoyne who, having lost his opening set 13-11 to Colin Marriott proceeded to take all his matches with the minimum of fuss. Gascoyne was again well supported by junior, Max Tupper, who overcame Marriott 3-0, Josh Band 3-1 (14-12, 13-11 in the final 2 sets) and came back from 2-0 down to beat Tom Quinn 3-2. Although continuing to improve and impress, Tom Morgan lost 3-0 to all the B team players. Gascoyne and Tupper rounded off their evening with a 3-1 win over Band and Quinn in the doubles.

CCC B and CCC C drew 5 - 5.   A much deserved first point of the season for the Division's bottom side. Captain Mark Liron set the ball rolling by defeating an off colour wily veteran Barry Vibert 3-2 in the opening match, following this up with a victory over Martin Tupper 3-1 before losing 3-1 to Trevor Lefebvre.  Hugo Tupper also beat Vibert 3-1 and father Martin (again!) 3-2, but also found Lefebvre to be too strong as he went down in straight sets. Glen Brown too overcame Martin Tupper 3-1 but lost 3-2 to Vibert and 3-1 to Lefebvre.  Lefebvre capped a good night for him by teaming up with Vibert in a 3-1 doubles victory over Liron and Hugo Tupper to earn a share of the spoils

Division 2    

Victoria B beat Victoria A 10 - 0      A resounding start to the year for the league leaders, with a comprehensive win over their A side. David Hole, Charles Le Sueur and Trevor Motto all enjoyed straight set wins over Jack Messervy, Ed Le Quesne and Myles Hawgood.  There proved to be no respite in the doubles, Motto and Le Sueur running out straight set victors over Messervy and Le Quesne 3-0. In this form, the league leaders will certainly take some catching.

St Mary beat CCC A 6-4.    St. Mary are now in sole occupation of second spot following this closest of victories, the outcome of the match only decided in the final match of the evening when Darren Le Brun beat Martin Tupper 15-13 in the 5th and final game. Earlier Le Brun, who had a busy night, had also beaten Rex Cardy 3-2 but lost by the same score line to newcomer Guilain Le Piouffle. Barry Breuilly was in good form for the Parish side winning his 3 singles, with Fed Coote's victory over Cardy being crucial. In the doubles, Lepiouffle and Tupper gained some consolation with a 3-2 success over Breuilly and Le Brun.

CCC C beat CCC B 8-2.    The evergreen Malcolm Gallichan enjoyed a good start to 2009. Gallichann surprisingly overcame Tom Marsay 3-0 and followed this up with 3-1 wins over both Helen Liron and Sam Allen 3-1.   Sam Elliott also beat Liron 3-1 and Allen 3-0, but lost out 14-12 in the 5th game of an excellent encounter with Marsay, after having been 2-1 up.  Paul Hargreaves too defeated Liron and Allen 3-0 but lost 3-2 in the final match to Marsay.  Elliott and Hargreaves rounded things off for the C side with a 3-1 doubles victory over Marsay and Liron.                                                

 

League report 19 Dec 08 week 9

Division 1

Pegasus beat CCC C   9 - 1      Defending champions will head the table going into 2009 following this victory. The vintage duo of Clive Hansford and Bruce Gallichan starred for Pegasus , Hansford defeating Mark Liron, Hugo Tupper and Martin Tupper, 3-1 in each case, Gallichan gaining 3-0 successes over the Tuppers before coming back from 2-1 down to edge Liron. 3-2. Hugo earned CCC their consolation victory with a 3-2 success over fellow junior Scott Cassin.   In the doubles Hansford and Cassin teamed up to beat Hugo and Liron in 4 close games.  

CCC A beat St. Joseph B 10 - 0      An unexpected resounding victory for CCC, helped in some part by illness to Josh Band who was unable to play his final two singles matches. Luke Walker produced his best table tennis of the season, opening with a 3-0 win over Band and following up with victories against Colin Marriott 3-0 and Tom Quinn 3-2, after having been 2-1 down.  Bobby Vincent beat the unfortunate Quinn 12-10 in the 5th, ending with a net cord and also overcame Marriott 3-1. Eugene Ellis had a more comfortable evening with wins over Quinn 3-0 and Marriott 3-1. Ellis and Walker completed the whitewash with a 3-1 doubles success over Quinn and Marriott.

St. Joseph A drew 5 - 5 with CCC B.      For St Josephs, Craig Gascoyne won all his matches without dropping a game and in doing so maintained his perfect 100% record. Island Top 12 Junior Max Tupper beat Kay Lefebvre 3-0 but was totally outsmarted as he surprisingly lost 3- 0 to the wily veteran Barry Vibert. Tupper also lost 3-2 to Trevor Lefebvre after being 2-1 up.   Tom Morgan lost 3-0 to Trevor and 3-1 to both Kay and Vibert. Gascoyne and Tupper salvaged a point for their side with a straight set doubles victory over Vibert and Lefebvre

Division 2

Victoria B beat CCC A 8 - 2      Victoria bounced back from last week's surprise defeat with victory over one of their nearest rivals For CCC, Carol Milnes continued her fine run of form. Despite just losing 3-2 to David Hole, Milnes defeated both Charles Le Sueur and Peter Hinds 3-1.  Le Sueur and Hole, however, both beat Martin Tupper and Rex Cardy 3-0, with Hinds gaining success over the forlorn Tupper 3-0 and coming back from 2-1 down to claim the scalp of Cardy.  In the doubles, Hole and Le Sueur won 15-13 in the 5th game against Tupper and Milnes. 

CCC B beat Victoria A 6 – 4 A deserved first win of the season for the young CCC side.   Tom Marsay beat Ed Le Quesne 3-0, Myles Hawgood 3-1 and in the final match beat Alan Richardson 11-6 in the 5th game.  Helen Liron also enjoyed a good evening with wins over Le Quesne 3-2, Hawgood 3-0 before just losing 3-2 to Richardson.   Sam Allen's play did not produce the results it deserved losing in the 5th game to Richardson, over 4 games to Hawgood and 3-0 to Le Quesne.  Marsay and Liron capped their excellent evening beating Le Quesne and Richardson 3-2 in the doubles to clinch the match.   

CCC C beat St Mary 9 -1    CCC took full advantage of a weakened Parish side. Fred Coote did beat Paul Hargreaves to gain his side its solitary success, before losing 11-9 in the 5th game to Malcolm Gallichan and 3-0 to Sam Elliott. Anne Coote took a game off Elliott, however Vic Roberts found the going tougher, losing all his matches in straight sets.   Elliott and Hargreaves beat Anne Coote and Roberts 3-0.

 

League report 12 Dec 08 week 8

Division 1

With the season nearing its half way stage, the battle for the Division One title looks like being the closest for many years, only one point currently separating the top 4 sides

St. Joseph A beat CCC A 6 - 4     St. Josephs leapfrogged CCC to go joint top of the table with this win, Craig Gascoyne once again remaining unbeaten without the loss of a game.  It was, however, Island Top 12 Junior Champion, Max Tupper, who took the plaudits with victories over fellow junior rival Luke Walker 3-0 and Bobby Vincent 3-1, before losing to Eugene Ellis after 4 hard fought sets. Despite losing his 3 matches, Thomas Morgan again showed improved form and he will certainly play a key role for his side during the second half of the season. Gascoyne and Tupper teamed up to beat Ellis and Vincent 3-0 in the deciding doubles encounter.  


Pegasus beat CCC B   7 - 3      Pegasus also now have 11 points following this victory, Clive Hansford beating Kay Lefebvre 3-1 and Martin Tupper 3-0, before losing out to Trevor Lefebvre.  This defeat cost Hansford his carefully preserved 100% record. Bruce Gallichan beat Tupper and Kay 3–0, but also came unstuck against Trevor in five close sets. Scott Cassin also enjoyed success against Kay 3-2 and Tupper 3-1, but again found Trevor to be too good as he was defeated in straight sets.  In the doubles, the very experienced pairing of Gallichan and Hansford outclassed the Lefebvres. 

St. Joseph B beat CCC C 10 - 0.     A comfortable victory for the St. Josephs B side keeps them well in contention.   The respective singles victories were all gained with the minimum of fuss , although Josh Band dropped his opening game to Mark Liron, Tom Quinn dropped a game to Glen Brown and Colin Marriott did likewise against Hugo Tupper. The combination of Band and Quinn beat Tupper and Brown 3-0 in the doubles to complete the whitewash and a bad week for CCC, though the overall result was a bit harsh on Mark Liron's side

Division 2    

CCC C beat Victoria B 7-3     Despite the Association's large number of up and coming juniors, the performance of the week was undoubtedly that of Jeff Vincent, the current Island Over 60s and Over 70s champion. Vincent came out of retirement, swapping slippers and mug for trainers and bat and starred as reserve in CCC's victory over the previously unbeaten league leaders. Vincent beat Peter Hinds 3-0, Dave Hole 11-9 in the 5th game and finally Trevor Motto 3-0.  Malcolm Gallichan lost his first match 3-1 to Motto, but came back with wins over Hinds and Hole both 3-0   Paul Hargreaves lost 3-0 to both Motto and Hole but beat Hinds 3-1.   In the doubles, Vincent and Hargreaves overcame a shell shocked Hole and Motto 3-1.

St. Mary beat CCC B 9-1    The Parish side took full advantage, closing the gap at the top to just 2 points with this victory. In the opening match, Ken Le Brun lost the first two games, won the 3rd 16-14 and finally beat Tom Marsay 13-11 in the 5th game. Marsay also lost 13-11 in the 5th game to Darren Le Brun, but finally beat Fred Coote, again 13-11 in the 5th game.   Sam Allen also had a close game against Coote, finally losing 13-11 in the 5th game. Helen Liron had an unsuccessful evening but continued to show promise against much more experienced rivals.

CCC A beat Victoria A 8 - 2     CCC also remain in joint second place with Carol Milnes, who dropped just the one game to Ed Le Quesne and Martin Tupper both unbeaten, Tupper also dropping only the one game to Alan Richardson. Rex Cardy was victorious against Richardson and Myles Hawgood 3-0, but lost out 3-1 to Le Quesne.  Le Quesne and Richardson gained some consolation with a 3-1 victory in the doubles over Tupper and Cardy.   

 

 

League report 7 Dec 08 week 7

Division 1

All 3 matches in the top division this week resulted in victories by the closest of margins.

St. Joseph A beat Pegasus 6- 4     A surprise reverse for the defending champions and league leaders. For St. Josephs , Craig Gascoyne maintained his 100% record, dropping just the one game against Dave Cronin.  Max Tupper lost 3-0 to both Bruce Gallichan and Dave Cronin before defeating Scott Cassin 3-2. Thomas Morgan lost 3-0 to Gallichan and 3-1 to Cronin, but crucially and much to his credit, came back from 2-1 down to beat Cassin 11-9 in the 5 th game.  Gascoyne and Tupper comfortably beat Clive Hansford and Gallichan 3-0 in the doubles.  

CCC A beat CCC C 6-4.      CCC A took full advantage and now head the table, although were pushed all the way by the league's bottom side. Eugene Ellis and Luke Walker both won their 3 matches without dropping a game.  However reserve Martin Tupper lost 3-0 to son Hugo and 3-1 to both Glen Brown and Mark Liron. In the doubles Hugo Tupper and Brown beat Martin Tupper and Walker 12-10 in the deciding game.   

St. Joseph B beat CCC B 6-4.  Josh Band was in good form with 3 wins. Band overcame Barry Vibert and Kay Lefebvre, in each case 3-1, Band rounding off the evening by claiming the scalp of Trevor Lefebvre 11-8 in the 5th game.  Band was well supported by Tom Quinn who defeated Vibert and Kay Lefebvre 3-1 before losing 3-0 to Trevor. Colin Marriott lost close matches to both the Lefebvres before overcoming a forlorn wily veteran Vibert 3-1 in his final match. Vibert and Trevor Lefebvre gained some consolation as they teamed up in a 3-2 success against Band and Quinn, this after having been 2-1 down.

Division 2    

Victoria B beat CCC B 7 - 3     Victoria maintained their 4 point lead at the top of the table with this win over the young CCC side. Trevor Motto again won his 3, with straight sets wins over Sam Allen and Helen Liron 3-0, before a much tighter struggle against Tom Marsay, Motto winning 3-2 after being 2-1 down.  Peter Hinds also beat both Allen and Liron 3-0, but found Marsay to be too good as he went down 3-0. David Hole gained a 3-1 success over Liron before tasting defeat, 3-0 and 3-2 against Allen and Marsay respectively. In the doubles, the combination of Hole and Motto gained a comfortable 3-0 win against Liron and Marsay.

St. Mary beat Victoria A 7-3   In a tightly fought contest, each St. Mary player registered 2 singles victories. Fred Coote opened with an 11-9 5th game win over Ed Le Quesne, beat Alan Richardson 3-1 before losing 3-0 to Doug Ferguson. Darren Le Brun beat both Le Quesne and Richardson 3-1, but lost to Ferguson by the same score line. Barry Breuilly started with an excellent 3-1 win against Ferguson in 4 close games then lost 11-9 in the 5th game to Le Quesne, before ending the evening with a 3-0 victory over Richardson. Coote and Le Brun came back from 2-1 down to beat Ferguson and Le Quesne 18-16 in the 5th game of the doubles.

CCC A beat CCC C 7-3     Following a recent run of good form, the C team's Sam Elliott surprisingly lost all of his matches, though not before going to a deciding 5 th set on each occasion. Paul Hargreaves also lost his 3, taking a game from Carol Milnes and Martin Tupper. It was left to the C team's captain, Malcolm Gallichan, to restore some balance to the proceedings as he remained unbeaten. Rex Cardy, Milnes and Tupper therefore each gained 2 singles victories for the A side, with Milnes and Cardy also successfully combining for a 3-2 doubles success.

Division 3   

St. Joseph A beat St. Joseph B 3-2.   St. Josephs remain unbeaten at the half way stage of the season but were given a real scare by the league's youngest side. Matthieu Fisher beat both Jordan Wykes and Philip Quinn  3-0.   However Michael Fisher lost 3-2 to Wykes after being 2-1 up. He also lost 12-10 in the 5th game to Quinn.  In the crucial doubles, the Fishers won the first game 17-15, lost the next two games, before finally coming out on top 11-8 in the final set.  

CCC C beat Victoria 3- 2  This was another excellent match involving 4 junior players where the standard of play was exceptionally high. Ollie Meaton beat Chris Morshead 3 - 1 and Jack Messervy 3-2, 11-9 in the final game.  Ollie Griggs also beat Morshead, 13-11 in the 5th game of a match of many thrilling rallies, before losing 3-0 to Messervy.   . In the doubles the Victorians won 3-0, 13-11 in the final game, but this was not enough to win the match.

CCC A beat St. Mary B 3-2    CCC's sister act, Kelsey and Jodie Le Maistre remain in joint second place. Both beat Paul Moullin 3-1, but each lost out to a much improved performance from Dot Kierys, The Le Maistres however took the doubles 3-0 to win the match.

St. Mary A beat CCC B 5-0 .  Another girl in form was St. Mary's Anne Coote with wins over Emily Robins 3-2 and the diminutive Jack Mills 3-0.  Vic Roberts fared even better with 2 straight sets victories.  In the doubles, the St. Mary pair lost the first game before going on to win 3-1. 

Division 4   

Victoria A beat St. Joseph B 5-0 .  The league leaders kept up their impressive start to the season. Harry Messervy won both his matches 3-0.  Adam Denny beat Andrew Tsang 3-0 and Corey Stewart 3-2 after being 2-1 down.   Victoria also took the doubles 3-0.


Pegasus A beat CCC B 5-0   This win means that Pegasus remain in joint second place in the table. In the singles Oren Le Marquand and Tyler Gosselin won both their matches 3-0..  In the doubles James Job and George Gautier won the first two games 13-11, before losing the next 3 games 11-9.

CCC A beat CCC C 5-0 .  CCC A also share second place with Billy Hickling and Carl Duncan both winning their singles and the doubles without dropping a game to Nate and James Walwyn, though both Walwyns are improving week by week.

Victoria B beat St. Joseph A 3-2 .   The final match saw the week's closes encounter. Dylan Rawlinson beat David Quinn 3-0 but lost 3-1 to Timmy Boulter.   Danny Heaven beat Quinn 3-1 but also lost 3-1 to the progressive Boulter.  In the doubles Rawlinson and Charlie Hodges beat Boulter and Quinn in 3 close games to earn Victoria the victory.

 

League report 30 Nov 08 week 6

Division 1

Pegasus beat St. Joseph B 7- 3  Pegasus remain at the head of the table, despite the efforts of Josh Band who recorded two excellent victories over Bruce Gallichan 3-0 and Dave Cronin 3-1. Gallichan and Cronin both fought back with straight set victories over Tom Quinn and Daisy Duke 3-0.   Junior Scott Cassin continues to impress for the defending champions, coming back from 2-0 down to beat Band. Cassin also won 3-0 against Duke, before going down 3-0 to Quinn. Clive Hansford and Cronin beat Band and Quinn 11-9 in the 5th game of an exciting doubles encounter.  

CCC A beat CCC B  6-4.    CCC A are now the nearest challengers to Pegasus following this close fought victory. For the B team, Trevor Lefebvre was unbeaten with successes over Luke Walker 3-0, Kevin Allen 3-1 and Bobby Vincent 3-2. Barry Vibert also beat Allen 3-0, however lost 3-0 to both Walker and Vincent. The improving Tom Marsay, playing as reserve for the B team, lost his 3, taking a game from Allen.  Despite his heroics in the singles Lefebvre was unable to carry wily veteran Vibert as they went down 3-2 against Allen and Walker in the crucial doubles.

St. Joseph A beat CCC C 7-3.   For the A team Craig Gascoyne was once again undefeated, his victories including a drubbing over the despairing Mark Liron. Top 12 Junior champion, Max Tupper, matched the performance of Gascoyne, dropping just the one game to Glen Brown.  Tom Morgan, who has moved up from division 3, continues to impress but is finding victories hard to come by. Morgan lost 3-0 to Liron and Hugo Tupper, before just failing to get the better of Brown in five close sets. Tupper and Gascoyne beat Brown and Liron 3-0 in the doubles. 

Division 2  

Victoria B beat St. Mary 6-4     Victoria now enjoy a healthy four point lead at the top of the table following this success against their closest rivals. For Victoria, Trevor Motto showed a welcome return to form with 3 resounding victories. David Hole won 2, losing to Fred Coote, however securing the crucial final match of the evening against Darren Le Brun, while Peter Hinds chipped in with his success over Breuilly.  In the doubles, Le Brun and Breuilly beat Hole and Motto.

CCC A beat CCC B 6-4.      Despite another defeat for the young CCC B side, Tom Marsay was again in fine form winning all his matches 3-1.  Sam Allen beat Martin Tupper 3-2 but lost 3-1 to Rex Cardy and 3-0 to Carol Milnes.  Helen Liron won a game against Tupper but lost 3-0 to both Cardy and Milnes.  In a close doubles, Tupper needed all of Cardy's steady resolve as they overcame Allen and Marsay 3-1 to clinch the two points for their side.   

ictoria A beat CCC C 6-4   A first defeat of the season for CCC, the league's draw specialists. Doug Ferguson was man of the match for Victoria, dropping just the one game to Ollie Meaton.  Both Alan Richardson and Ed Le Quesne beat Meaton, before each lost 3-1 to the unflappable Malcolm Gallichan   CCC's Paul Hargreaves beat Richardson 3-0 and Le Quesne 3-2, 11-9 in the 5th game.  Seasoned campaigners, Ferguson and Le Quesne, overcame Gallichan and Hargreaves 3-0 in the doubles to gain the win.  

Division 3

St. Joseph A beat Victoria 5-0    St. Josephs retained their 100% record and are clearly now the team to catch. Matthieu Fisher beat Jack Messervy 3-2 and Chris Morshead 3-1.  Brother, Michael Fisher, also beat the unlucky Messervy, 13-11 in the 5th game and Morshead 3-0.  The Fishers completed the whitewash, coming out on top 3-1 in the doubles.

CCC A beat St. Mary A 3-2   CCC A did St. Josephs a big favour with this win over the latter's nearest rivals. For St. Mary, Vic Roberts defeated Kelsey Le Maistre and combined with Anne Coote to win the doubles. However, two wins from Jodie Le Maistre and Kelsey's victory over Coote was enough to give CCC the points.

St. Mary B beat CCC B 3-2 .   In undoubtedly the league's closest match of the week, Paul Moullin and Dotty Kierys both won one singles for St. Mary, as did Emily Robins and Jack Mills for CCC.  In the doubles, the St. Mary pair edged to victory, 16-14 in the 5th game, to give the home side the narrowest of 3-2 successes.

St. Joseph B beat CCC C 3-2.   Illness possibly deprived CCC victory in the final match of the week. For CCC, Olly Meaton enjoyed 3-0 successes, albeit hard fought, against both Philip Quinn and Jordan Wykes 3-0. However, with both Meaton's teammates unavailable due to illness, CCC had to forfeit the remaining 3 games

 

League report 22 Nov 08 week 5

Division 1

Pegasus drew 5-5 with CCC A    A point dropped by the champions as CCC's Eugene Ellis produced his best performance of the season with victories over Scott Cassin and Dave Cronin, both 3-0 and Bruce Gallichan 3-1. Bobby Vincent beat Cassin 3-0 but lost out 3-1 to Gallichan and Cronin.  Reserve Tom Marsay was defeated in straight sets by Cronin and Gallichan before just going down 3-2 to fellow junior Cassin.  Ellis and Vincent paired up in an excellent 3-1 doubles victory over Cronin and Gallichan.

CCC B beat CCC C 8-2.   The anticipated victory for the B side for whom Trevor Lefebvre impressed with 3 victories without dropping a game.  Kay Lefebvre lost 3-1 to Mark Liron before gaining victories over Glen Brown 3-0 and Hugo Tupper 3-2.  Barry Vibert beat Mark Liron 3-0 and then came back from 2-0 down to beat Glen Brown. A desperately tired Vibert was unable to repeat the feat against the much younger Tupper, Vibert losing out 3-2 after having been 2-1 up.  Trevor Lefebvre and Vibert defeated Tupper and Brown 3-0 in the doubles.

St. Joseph B drew 5-5 with St. Joseph A     For the A team, Craig Gascoyne remains unbeaten for the season, winning his 3 matches without the loss of a game. Max Tupper secured an excellent 3-2 victory over Josh Band 3-2, but lost 3-1 to both Colin Marriott and Tom Quinn   Thomas Morgan lost 3-0 to Quinn, 3-1 to Band and was an unlucky loser against Marriott, 14-12 in the 5th and final game.  Tupper and Gascoyne beat Band and Quinn 3-0 in the doubles to secure the point

 

Division 2  

Victoria B beat Victoria A 6-4     Charles Le Sueur won his 3 for the league leaders, the closest a 3-2 win against Doug Ferguson. Trevor Motto lost 3-2 to Ferguson and 3-0 to Ed Le Quesne but beat Alan Richardson 3-2 after being 2-1 down, Peter Hinds lost 3-1 to both Ferguson and Le Quesne but beat Richardson 3-0.  In the doubles, an amazing return from Le Sueur at match point in the 4th game kept he and David Hole in the match and they eventually beat Ferguson and Le Quesne 11-9 in the 5th game to get the win.

St. Mary drew 5-5 with CCC A.    Darren Le Brun was again unbeaten for the parish side, but was pushed close by both a resurgent Martin Tupper 3-2 and Rex Cardy 3-1. Barry Breuilly beat Cardy 11-9 in the 5th game but lost 3-1 to Tupper and 3-0 to Carol Milnes.  Fred Coote lost 14-12 in the 5th game to Cardy and 3-1 to Tupper and 3-0 to Milnes.  Le Brun and Breuilly beat Tupper and Milnes 3-2 after being 2-1 down in the crucial deciding doubles.       

CC C beat CCC B 6-4    For the B team, Tom Marsay continued his fine run with comprehensive victories over Malcolm Gallichan and Sam Elliott, Marsay dropping his only game to Paul Hargreaves.   Marsay's teammates, Sam Allen and Helen Liron, however both struggled on the night, though each had close matches with both Hargreaves and Elliott  Allen joined up with Marsay as they beat Gallichan and Hargreaves 3-2 in a close doubles including one game at 18-16. 

Division 3

St. Joseph A beat St. Mary's A 3-2    A fabulous match between the leagues 2 unbeaten sides, with Matthieu Fisher again on top form beating both Vic Roberts 3-0 and Anne Coote 3-1, the final game by 19-17.  Michael Fisher crucially came out on top against Coote in 3 close games, but lost 3-1 to Roberts.   In the doubles Roberts and Coote gained some consolation with their excellent 3-0 success over the Fishers.

CCC C beat St. Mary B  4 - 1 .    In another match where the standard of play was very high, Olly Meaton enjoyed straight set victories over both Paul Moullin and Dotty Kierys 3-0.  Olly Griggs beat Kierys 3-0, the final game 16-14  but lost out 3-1 to Moullin, this to give the parish side a deserved albeit solitary success. Meaton and Griggs combined to take a close doubles 3-2.

Victoria beat CCC A 3-2    Jack Messervy was in good form with wins over Kelsey and Jodie Le Maistre, both 3-0.   Chris Morshead lost 3-0 to Kelsey and 3-1 to Jodie.   In the doubles, the Victorians came back from 2 games down to win 11-8 in the 5th game and take the points.  

CCC B beat St. Joseph B 3-2.    A good night for Emily Robins over the young St. Josephs side, Robins winning both her matches over the full 5 sets. Jack Mills beat Philip Quinn 3-0 but lost 3-1 to Jordan Wykes.   In the doubles, the improving pairing of Quinn and Wykes enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Division 4

Victoria A beat CCC C 5-0.   At this early stage of the season, Victoria remain the only unbeaten side. Harry Messervy won both matches 3-0, with Adam Denney also defeating James Walwyn 3-0 and Nathanael Walwyn 3-1.     Messervy and Denney also took the doubles but only after 5 hard fought sets. 

Pegasus beat Victoria B 4-1 Pegasus kept up the pressure on the league leaders, Owen Le Marquand beating Charlie Hodges 3-2 after being 2-1 down and Daniel Heaven 3-0  Tyler Gosselin lost 3-0 to Hodges, but beat Heaven 3-1.    Tyler Gosselin and Charlie Hansford beat Heaven and Hodges 3-0 in the doubles.

CCC A beat St. Joseph B 5-0 Billy Hickling had a good morning with success over both Corey Stewart and Andrew Tsang 3-0.  Carl Duncan also won 2, dropping just the one game to Stewart. Hickling and Duncan then teamed up to defeat beat Tsang and Stewart 3-1 in the doubles. 

St. Joseph A beat CCC B 4-1.   Last bit not least, two welcome points for the St. Josephs side for whom Timmy Boulter beat both George Gautier and James Job 3-0.  David Quinn just beat Job 3-2 before losing to Gautier 3-0.  Quinn and Boulter joined forces to win a tight doubles encounter 3-1.

 

League report 13 Nov 08 week 4

Division 1

Pegasus beat CCC C 10-0 Pegasus moved to the top of the table in emphatic style, led by Bruce Gallichan who won his 3 matches without dropping a game.  Fellow veteran, Clive Hansford, beat Mark Liron 3-0, Glen Brown 3-1 and Hugo Tupper 3-2, this after having been 2 games down. Junior Scott Cassin continues to impress defeating both Brown and Tupper 3-1, before overcoming Liron 15-13 in the 5th game, Cassin also pulling back a 2 game deficit. CCC, last season's Division 2 champions, are finding the step up to the top level a difficult one but the experience being gained, particularly by the juniors Brown and Tupper, will certainly stand them in good stead for the future.

CCC B beat St. Joseph A 6-4    A close win for the CCC side, despite the efforts of Craig Gascoyne, who maintained his 100% record. Gascoyne won his 3, albeit dropping games to both Kay and Trevor Lefebvre. Gascoyne also teamed up with Max Tupper in a 3-0 doubles victory against Barry Vibert and Trevor Lefebvre. However Gascoyne's teammates had a miserable evening, Marcus Hawgood and Max Tupper both losing their 3 singles matches, Hawgood taking a game off the wily veteran Vibert, while Tupper won a game against both the Lefebvres.  

St. Joseph B drew 5-5 with CCC A    In questionably the match of the season so far, St. Josephs recovered from 4-0 down to deservedly take a share of the spoils . Tom Quinn lost 3-0 to Bobby Vincent but beat Luke Walker 3-1 and gained a notable victory over Eugene Ellis 3-0. Colin Marriott was very unlucky to come out of the match with no wins, losing 3-1 to both Walker and Vincent and 3-2 to Ellis.  Josh Band defeated Vincent and Walker both 3-1, but later succumbed 3-0 to Ellis. Band and Quinn teamed up to defeat Walker and Ellis 3-1 in a tight doubles encounter.

Division 2  

Victoria B beat CCC A 8 - 2    Victoria remain at the head of the table following this victory and in doing so, inflicted a first defeat on one of the nearest rivals. Charles Le Sueur was unbeaten, with 3-0 wins against Martin Tupper and Rex Cardy, Le Sueur also defeating Carol Milnes 11-9 in the 5th game of their match.  David Hole was also in good form with wins over Tupper 3-0, Cardy 3-1 and the unlucky Milnes 3-2, 11-8 in the 5th game after being 2 games down.  Trevor Motto beat a tiring Milnes 3-0, a dejected Tupper 3-1, before losing 3-0 to Cardy.  In the doubles, Milnes and Cardy beat Le Sueur and Motto 3-0.

St. Mary beat CCC C 8-2   The Parish side kept up the pressure on the league leaders with their latest win. Darren Le Brun won his 3, but had to dig deep in his 3-2 successes over both Malcolm Gallichan and Paul Hargreaves.   Barry Breuilly beat Hargreaves and Sam Elliott both 3-2, however lost out to Gallichan. Fred Coote lost 3-2 to Elliott before fighting back with good wins over Gallichan and Hargreaves.  

CCC B drew with Victoria A 5-5  A first point of the season for the young CCC side, in a match with a number of close finishes. Tom Marsay was again in file form with 3 wins and no games dropped. Sam Allen beat Myles Hawgood 3-0 and Jack Messervy 3-1 but lost 3-2 to the old stager Ed Le Quesne. Helen Liron lost 3-0 to Messervy and 3-2 to Le Quesne and in a tense final match, 12-10 in the 5th game to Hawgood.   Messervy and Le Quesne came back from 2-0 down to beat Marsay and Allen 11-9 in the 5th game of the doubles to secure a point for Victoria.

Division 3

St. Mary A beat CCC C 4 - 1 .    St. Mary maintained their perfect start to the season with this win. Vic Roberts beat both Olly Griggs and James Harrison.  Anne Coote beat Harrison but lost out to the fast improving Griggs. Experience told as Coote and Roberts won the doubles.

St. Joseph A beat St. Mary's B  5 - 0   St. Josephs also retained their 100% record but were pushed a lot harder than the score suggests, 4 of the matches requiring a 5 th and deciding set. Paul Moullin lost to both Michael and Matthieu Fisher 3-2.  Dot Kierys lost 3 - 0 to Matthieu, before succumbing to Michael 3-2.  The Fishers also ran out winners of the doubles, 12-10 in the 5th game.

CCC A beat St. Joseph B 4-1  A good win for the young CCC side against much younger opponents, in a match played with great spirit and a tremendous and very sporting attitude. Jodie Le Maistre starred with 3-0 victories.    Kelsey Le Maistre also beat Philip Quinn 3-0, before losing 3-1 to Jordan Wykes, the sisters teaming up in a 3-1 doubles success.

Victoria beat CCC B 3-2    The closest match of the week saw Jack Messervy beat Jack Mills 3-0 and Emily Robins  3-2 after having been 2-1 down.  Chris Morshead had a crucial 3-1win over Mills before losing in 3 close games to Robins.   In the doubles, Mills and Robins beat the Victorians 3-2, coming back from 2-1 down. 


Division 4

The “new kids on the block” were back in action this week, following a break of 2 weeks from league action, but not from a lot of hard and fun practice, evidenced by the standard of play on show.

Victoria A beat Pegasus A 4-1.   Victoria head the table following their victory over close rivals Pegasus. Harry Messervy came back from 2-0 down to beat Tyler Gosselin 3-2 and then beat Charlie Hansford 3-1   Adam Denney lost 3-0 to Hansford but beat Gosselin 3-0.   Messervy and Denney won the doubles 3-0 with 2 games going beyond 10-all.

Victoria B beat CCC C 5-0   Dylan Rawlinson and Charlie Hodges didn't drop a game in their respective singles matches. The doubles proved to be much more even, James and Nathanael Walwyn winning the first game, before eventually losing 3-1, 12-10 in the 4th game.

CCC A beat St. Joseph A 4-1.   Billy Hickling was impressive with two 3-0 victories. Carl Duncan beat David Quinn 3-0 but lost 3-2 to Timmy Boulter, this after being 2-0 up. Hickling and Duncan ran out 3-1 doubles winners


St. Joseph B beat CCC B 4-1

Andrew Tsang was another in good form also taking both singles without dropping a game.  Corey Stewart beat James Job 3-0 but lost 3-2 to George Gautier after having been 2-0 up. Tsang and Stewart combined in a 3-0 doubles success

 

League report 7 Nov 08 week 3

Division 1

Early indications are that the battle for the Division 1 title looks like being a close fought affair with four sides sharing top spot following on from the third week of matches.

Pegasus beat CCC B 7-3      The defending champions recovered from last week's defeat with Dave Cronin leading the way, all his wins coming in straight sets. Bruce Gallichan beat Barry Vibert and Kay Lefebvre 3-0, however lost 11-9 in the 5th game of an excellent match against Trevor Lefebvre. Junior Scott Cassin gained two vital wins for his side, coming back from 2-1 down to beat an energy sapped Vibert and Kay Lefebvre 3-2. Trevor Lefebvre proved too good, however, for Cassin with a 3-1 victory. A good night for Lefebvre was completed as he teamed up with a rejuvenated Vibert in a 3-1 doubles success against Cassin and Clive Hansford.

CCC A beat St. Joseph A 7-3    CCC joined St. Josephs at the top of the table, despite 3 wins from Craig Gascoyne who maintained his 100% record, Gascoyne dropping only the one game to Eugene Ellis.  Gascoyne's teammates, Thomas Morgan and Max Tupper, were less successful. Both lost 3-0 to Ellis, although Morgan did take a game from Bobby Vincent, Tupper doing likewise against Luke Walker.  Ellis and Walker are looking to be a vastly improving pairing as they defeated Gascoyne and Tupper 3-0 in some style in the doubles.

St. Joseph B beat CCC C 10 - 0   St. Josephs enjoyed a comfortable victory although a number of the games were a lot closer then the overall match score line suggests . Tom Quinn was in fine form for the winners, dropping just the one game to Hugo Tupper. Colin Marriott beat Tupper 3-0, backing this up with 3-1 victories over Mark Liron and Glen Brown. Josh Band defeated Brown and Liron 3-1 before securing the whitewash with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Tupper 3-2. Band and Quinn took the doubles 3-0 against Liron and Tupper

Division 2  

Victoria B drew 5-5 with CCC C    The league leaders, Victoria, dropped their first point of the season in a match full of many close and exciting games. Sam Elliott had an excellent evening for CCC, winning three close matches beating Trevor Motto 12-10 in the 5th, David Hole 11-9 in the 5th and finally Charles Le Sueur 11-9 in the 4th game.  Malcolm Gallichan beat Hole and Motto 3-1 but lost 12-10 in the 5th game to Le Sueur.  Paul Hargreaves won a game against Hole but otherwise was unsuccessful.  In the vital doubles, Hole and Motto came back from 2 games down to beat Hargreaves and Gallichan 11-7 in the 5th game.

CCC A drew with Victoria A 5-5    Ed Le Quesne starred for Victoria, winning all 3 of his matches, dropping a game to each opponent.  Doug Ferguson beat Martin Tupper and Rex Cardy 3-0 but lost his first match 3-0 to Carol Milnes.  Junior, Myles Hawgood, performed with much promise, albeit experience told as he lost out to each of the Vintage Trio. Cardy and Tupper beat Hawgood and Le Quesne 3-0 in the doubles to level the match.

St. Mary beat CCC B  6-4   CCC's Tom Marsay fine form continued, despite his side being edged out against the Parish side. Darren Le Brun beat Helen Liron and Sam Allen 3-0 but lost 3-2 to Marsay who came back from 2-1 down.   Barry Breuilly beat Liron 3-0, before losing out 3-0 to Marsay and 3-1 to Allen.  Fred Coote lost 3-0 to Marsay but came back with two very good wins against Allen 3-2 and Liron 3-0.

Le Brun and Coote beat Liron and Allen 3-0 to secure both points for the Parish side

Division 3

Another batch of tight matches, all decided by the narrowest of score lines.

CCC C beat CCC B  3-2    Olly Meaton beat Jack Mills 11-9 in the 5th game and Emily Robins  3-1, the final game 15-13.  Alex Du Feu lost 3-1 to Mills but crucially defeated Robins 11-9 in the 5th game.    In the doubles, Mills and Robins beat Meaton and Du Feu 3-0.

St. Joseph B beat St. Mary's B 3-2   A very good result for the young St. Josephs side. Philip Quinn beat Dot Kierys 3-1 and Brian Nicolle 3-0.  Jordan Wykes beat Kierys 3-0 but lost 12-10 in the 5th game to super veteran Brian Nicolle, who recovered from being 2-0 down. In the doubles the St. Mary pair won the first two games easily, lost the 3rd game 11-9 and finally won the 4th game 14-12  

St. Joseph A beat CCC A  3-2   Close games a plenty in this match, with Mattieu Fisher leading the way with wins over Kelsey Le Maistre in 3 close games and Jodie Le Maistre 3-1.  His brother Michael came back from 2 games down to beat Kelsey 12-10 in the 5th but lost 3-1 to Jodie.  In the doubles, the sisters prevailed, Jodie and Kelsey coming out on top with a 3-1 victory. 

St. Mary A beat Victoria 3-2 .    St. Mary retained their 100% record despite the efforts of Jack Messervy who beat Anne Coote 3-1 and Vic Roberts 3-2. Chris Morshead lost 3-0 to Roberts and in the match that was to prove the decisive result, 11-9 in the 5th game to Coote. In the doubles, Coote and Roberts lost the first game but rallied well to win 3-1. 

 

League report 24 Oct 08 week 2

Division 1

St. Joseph A beat Pegasus 6-4     St. Josephs maintained the Division's only 100% record following this victory over the defending champions. As expected, Craig Gascoyne won his all his matches, beating Dave Cronin and Paul Routier 3-0. Gascoyne was however pushed hard by Scott Cassin, before prevailing in the deciding 5 th set. Max Tupper defeated Cassin and Routier but lost to Cronin, all 3-1.  Although losing all his matches, Tom Morgan continued to show much improvement in this his first season in the top flight. Gascoyne and Tupper teamed up to take the deciding doubles, 3-1 against Cronin and Cassin.

CCC A  beat CCC C 10-0    A resounding victory for the A side, for whom Luke Walker won his 3 without dropping a game.  Eugene Ellis dropped just the one game to Mark Liron, the other member of the A side, Bobby Vincent, enjoying victories over Hugo Tupper 3-0, Mark Liron 3-1 and Glen Brown 3-2, this after being 2 games down.  Ellis and Walker beat Tupper and Brown 3-0 in the doubles.

St. Joseph B beat CCC B 6-4.   The closest match of the night saw both Josh Band and Colin Marriott of St. Josephs come out on top against Kay Lefebvre and Barry Vibert, before both lost in straight sets to Trevor Lefebvre.  Tom Quinn gained a straight sets victory over Trevor Le Febvre but surprisingly lost 3-2 to both Kay Lefebvre and Vibert.  Quinn's match against Vibert was unquestionably the match of the evening, the trimmer Vibert outlasting Quinn over 5 grueling sets, taking the deciding set 13-11. Band and Quinn took the vital against Trevor Lefebvre and Vibert 3-0. 

Division 2  

Victoria B beat CCC B 7-3   Victoria top the table following the victory over the young CCC side. For the victors, David Hole was in imperious form with wins over Helen Liron 3-0, Sam Allen 3-1 and Tom Marsay 3-2. Peter Hinds performed likewise defeating Liron and Allen 3-0 before succumbing 3-1 to the impressive Marsay. Sam Motto beat Allen but lost to Marsay and Liron all 3-1 The combination of Hole and Hinds beat Marsay and Liron  3-1 in the doubles.

CCC A drew with CCC C 5-5   An excellent evening for the C team's Sam Elliott with 3 wins against much more experienced opponents, Martin Tupper, Rex Cardy and Carol Milnes. Club stalwart, Malcolm Gallichan also had wins over Tupper 3-1 and Cardy 3-0, before losing out against Milnes 3-1. Paul Hargreaves lost his 3, but did take games off both Cardy and Milnes. In the doubles, Milnes and Tupper defeated Gallichan and Elliott 3-0 in close games to level the match.

St. Mary beat Victoria A  8-2.  This proved to be a comfortable win for the Parish side against under strength opponents, despite the valiant efforts of Ed Le Quesne. Darren Le Brun won his 3 comfortably.  Ken Le Brun was also unbeaten, his closet match being against Ed Le Quesne, Le Brun taking the deciding set 11-9.  Barry Breuilly lost his opening match 3-1 against Jack Messervy and then lost 19-17 in the 5th game of a marathon match against to Le Quesne, before gaining his solitary success against Myles Hawgood.   Le Brun and Breuilly beat Messervy and Hawgood in the doubles.                                                                                         

Division 3

St. Mary A beat St. Joseph B  5-0 .   St. Mary maintained their perfect start to the season with this win against the very young St. Josephs side. David Deffains and Vic Roberts won their singles against their young opponents.  In the doubles, Anthony Marriott and Philip Quinn had a big lead in the 5th game, before the St. Mary's pair dug deep and showed their experience to take the deciding set 11-9.

St. Joseph A beat CCC B 4-1  Some very close matches as St. Josephs kept the pressure on the St. Mary side. For the victors , Mattieu Fisher defeated both Jack Mills 3-1 and Emily Robins 3-2, the latter 12-10 in the 5th game.  Brother Michael came back from 2 games down to beat Mills 11-9 in the 5th and also took 5 games to beat Robins   In the doubles Mills and Robins won 11-9 in the 5th game to gain a solitary but much deserved win.

CCC A beat CCC C  3-2   Kelsey Le Maistre continued in her rich vein of form with wins over both Olly Meaton and Ollie Griggs 3-1. Kelsey also teamed up with Jodie as they secured a 3-0 victory in the doubles. Jodie lost both singles matches but will no doubt find her best form again very soon.

St. Mary B beat Victoria 5-0.  The scoreline does not reflect the true story of the match, as there were a number of tight matches before Paul Moullin and Dot Kierys eventually overcame newcomers Norma Hinds and Chris Morshead.

Division 4

The Geoff Reed Table Tennis Centre continues to be a buzz of activity as the newcomers to the game take part on a Sunday morning in the recently formed fourth division.

Pegasus A beat St. Joseph A 5-0

At this early stage, Pegasus do look to be one of the stronger sides. Tyler Gosselin and Charlie Hansford both won their matches 3-0 and together also won the doubles 3-0 against the younger pair of Timmy Boulter and the diminutive rising star David Quinn.

CCC C beat St. Joseph B 5-0

CCC also look to be a talented side. For the victors, Andrew Tsang beat James Walwyn 3-0 and Nat Walwyn 3-1.   Corey Stewart beat James 3-1 and Nat 3-0. The CCC duo took the doubles 3-0. 

Victoria B beat CCC B 5-0

Dylan Rawlinson beat George Gautier and James Job both 3-0.   Daniel Heaven beat Gautier 3-0 and Job 3-2.  In the doubles Charlie Hodges partnered Rawlinson and they beat Job and Gautier 3-0. 

Victoria A beat CCC A 4-1

The longest match of the morning saw Harry Messervy beat both Billy Hickling and Carl Duncan 3-2. Adam Denny beat Duncan but lost to Hickling, in each case 12-10 in the third game.  Messervy and Denny secured the doubles in 5 close games.  

 

League report 17 Oct 08 week 1

Division 1

Pegasus beat St. Joseph B 7-3    2007/08 Champions Pegasus began their defence of the title with this victory over the potentially dangerous St. Josephs B side. Bruce Gallichan was in impressive form with comfortable 3 wins. Gallichan was well supported by David Cronin who beat both Tom Quinn and Nicola Duke 3-0, Scott Cassin gaining an excellent 3-0 victory over the Island Ladies champion. For St. Josephs, Josh Band put in a superb performance to defeat Cronin, Band and Quinn both defeating Cassin, Quinn's victory coming after 5 hard fought sets.  Cronin and Gallichan beat Duke and Band 3-1 in the doubles.

CCC B beat CCC A 8-2. A good victory for the B side who took full advantage of the absence of the A side's Eugene Ellis. Trevor Lefebvre won all his matches without dropping a set and was backed up by a leaner looking Barry Vibert, who beat Luke Walker and Malcolm Gallichan. Kay Lefebvre also had wins against Walker and Gallichan. The only consolation for the B side was Bobby Vincent's wins over Vibert and Kay Lefebvre. Trevor Lefebvre and Vibert defeated Vincent and Walker 11-8 in the 5th game of the doubles.

St. Joseph A beat CCC C 8-2 .    This matched involved 4 of the up and coming juniors. Craig Gascoyne was the star man, remaining unbeaten without dropping a game.  St. Joseph's Max Tupper was also undefeated beating brother Hugo and Glen Brown 3-1. Tupper also came back from 2-1 down to beat the experienced Mark Liron 3-2.  Tom Morgan had a good 3-1 win over Hugo Tupper however lost 3-0 to Liron and 3-2 to Brown.  Gascoyne and Max beat Liron and Brown 3-0 in the doubles.

Division 2  

CCC A beat CCC B 8-2     A good victory for the experienced A side against their young counterparts. Carol Milnes won her 3, dropping games to Tom Marsay and Sam Allen. Teammate, Martin Tupper beat Allen 3-0 and Helen Liron 3-1 but lost 3-0 to Marsay in his opening match. Rex Cardy gained decisive wins over both Allen and Liron 3-0 but too lost 3-0 to Marsay. Cardy and Milnes took the doubles 3-0 over Marsay and Allen.  

Victoria B beat St. Mary 7-3   Charles Le Sueur enjoyed a successful return to the local table tennis, defeating Fred Coote 3-0, Barry Breuilly 3-1 and Darren Le Brun 3-2.  Trevor Motto was also unbeaten on the night with wins over Coote and Le Brun 3-1 and Breuilly 3-2.  Peter Hinds lost 3-1 to Breuilly and 3-0 to Le Brun but came back from 2-0 down to beat Coote 3-2.   Le Brun and Breuilly teamed up to defeat Le Sueur and Motto 3-1 in the doubles.   

   
Victoria A beat CCC C 7-3   A good night for the Victoria sides, with the B side also enjoying success after some very long and close matches. Doug Ferguson was in impressive form with victories over Paul Hargreaves 3-0, Malcolm Gallichan 3-1 and Sam Elliott 3-2.  Ed Le Quesne beat Elliott 3-1 and Hargreaves 13-11 in the 5th game but lost 12-10 in the 5th game to Gallichan.   Alan Richardson lost 3-0 to Gallichan and Elliott, before overcoming Hargreaves 13-11 in the 5th game.  Ferguson and Le Quesne beat Elliott and Hargreaves 3-1 in the doubles.

Division 3

St. Joseph A beat CCC C 4-1.  A good start to the season for the young Fisher brothers who are many peoples favourites to take the title this year. Michael Fisher beat Alex Du Feu 3-1 and Olly Meaton 3-2.   Mattieu Fisher also beat Meaton 3-1 but surprisingly lost 3-1 to Du Feu, an excellent win for the latter. The Fishers won the doubles 3-0, but the final game went to 16-14.


Victoria beat St. Joseph B 3-2 .  A close fought victory for Victoria against the league's youngest side. Jack Messervy beat Jordan Wykes 3-0 and Philip Quinn 3-1.  Chris Morshead lost 3-0 to Quinn and 3-2 to Wykes, after leading 2-0.  In the crucial doubles, Messervy and Morshead came out on top 3-1.

CCC A beat CCC B 3-2.   Kelsey Le Maistre starred in her side's opening victory with wins over Jack Mills 3-1 and Emily Robins 3-0. Sister Jodie lost 3-0 to the much improved Robins but enjoyed success against Mills 3-2 in the final match of the night.  Mills and Robins beat the Le Maistre sisters 3-0 in the doubles.

St. Mary A beat  St. Mary B 5-0 .   The Division's Senior players were on show in this battle of the parish sides, the A side gaining a resounding victory David Deffains won his two without losing a game, but Vic Roberts was taken to a 5th game by both Paul Moullin and Brian Nicolle. Deffains and Roberts won the doubles to take an early top spot in the league.

Division 4

The 4 th division is made up of a host of new juniors who have all taken up the sport over the past few months. At this early stage, it is difficult to predict who will prove to be the pick of the 8 sides making up the league

Pegasus A beat CCC C 5-0

Tyler Gosselin beat James and Natanael Walwyn, both by 3-0.   Charlie Hansford also won both his matches 3-0.  Together, Tyler and Charlie won the doubles 3-0.


CCC A beat CCC B 5-0

In the closest match of the opening round of matches, Timmy Boulter beat Andrew Tsang 11-9 in the 5th game and also defeated Corey Stewart 3-1. The league's youngest player, 5 year-old David Quinn, lost in 3 close games to Tsang but gained his first league win with a 3-1 victory over Stewart.  In a very close doubles, Quinn and Boulter came back from 2-1 down to beat Tsang and Stewart 11-9 in the 5th game
