DIS Electrical Jersey Closed 2008 ,Thursday 17 th Report.

The second day of the Jersey Closed Tournament started with the rounds for the 2 nd Division knockout title where the matches are decided on a best of 5 games basis. Veteran Carol Milnes had a good win against Matt Cooper and proceeded to the last sixteen with an 11 / 6 win in the fifth. Top seed Mark Liron saw that Milnes went no further with a 3—0 win in the last sixteen. The fast improving junior Tom Marsay had a tough draw against the very experienced and seasoned Malcolm Gallichan. Marsay lost the first game 6 / 11 but came back strongly with some good winners to claim the next three games to take the match. Another senior in the guise of Martin Tupper also got through to the next knockout round but it was only after a five game thriller where he came back from two games to one down against Sam Elliott. In the bottom half of the draw Glen Brown beat Barry “the cat” Breuilly in three whilst the much in form Hugo Tupper beat Myles Hawgood after a blip where he lost the first game. Brown claimed his semi-final place by despatching Sarah Cooper by 3---0 and was finally joined by Hugo Tupper who was pushed all the way but eventually beat the fourth seed Darren le Brun

11 / 5 , 11 / 13 , 11 / 9 , 11 / 8 . Top seed Liron had a close match against Martin Tupper having problems at times with his opponent's good defensive shots. He eventually prevailed with a flurry of smashes 3---1. In the last quarter final Marsay had a very steady win 3---0 against Ed le Quesne. Hugo Tupper was the first to reach what is his second final with a straight games win over Glen Brown who didn't have an answer to Tupper's aggressive attacking shots. He was joined by Tom Marsay who produced the performance of the night to put out Liron . Marsay never seemed to be troubled by the top seed as he took control from the start blocking well and forcing errors from his opponent. In the end it was an excellent win for the junior by three games to love, 12 / 10 , 11 / 7 , 11 / 7.

There were however no surprises in the Under 15 Boys Singles matches with Tom Morgan, and Sam Allen making the quarters both by four games to one to be joined by Tom Marsay who didn't drop a game against Matthieu Fisher. Fisher's brother, Michael, had the unenviable task of facing number one seed Josh Band in his quarter final where he played well but was unable to stop Band's progress. Hugo Tupper also reached the semis winning 4—0 against Morgan who put up a very spirited performance against the in form left hander. Sam Elliott also won in four against his younger opponent Sam Allen as did Max Tupper against Marsay. Tupper made no mistakes against the tricky Elliott winning points with good angles taking the match four love to reach the final. His brother Hugo then had the task of trying to stop Band reaching his second final of the tournament. Band took the first game 11 / 7 but Tupper fought back to level with an

11 / 7 reply. Top seed Band then eased up a gear with some highly spun serves and winning topspins and was never in trouble as he closed out the match winning the next three games.

The DIS Closed Tournament matches continue on Monday 21 st at 7.00 pm.
