The Jersey A team won 6-4, the B team drew 5-5, the C team lost 9-1, the D team won 7-3 and the E team drew 5-5. The Ladies A team lost 7-3 and the B team lost 10-0. so the strength of the ladies meant Bat and Ball won by 43 matches to 27 overall.
Jersey A team Craig Gascoyne won 2, Eugene Ellis won 1, Bruce Gallichan won 1 and Trevor Lefebvre none. Ellis / Gascoyne and Gallichan / Lefebvre both won doubles. Jersey won 6-4.
B.& B team was Jason Tendler(1), Karl Bushell, Colin Webber(1) and John Callcut(2)
Jersey B drew 5-5. Josh Band won 2, Luke Walker won 1, Bob Vincent won 2. The doubles pair of Band and Walker lost 3-1 to Rothery and Pretty. Both Band and Walker lost 3-2 to Guy Rothery. .B.&B. team was Guy Rothery(3), Andy Meads (0), Robin Pretty(1)
Jersey C lost 9-1. Barry Vibert and Hugo Tupper both lost 2 and their doubles to Steve Collins and Gill Locke. Max Tupper beat Cliff Keen 3-1 but lost 12-10 in the 5th to Ron Stracey. Scott Cassin lost to both Keen and Stracey and Tupper and Cassin lost the doubles. .
Jersey D won 7-3. Colin Marriott and Glen Brown both won 3, Mark Liron won one. Brown and Liron lost the doubles.
B.& B team was Hugh Slater, Keith Hartridge (1) and Mike Barrett (1).
Jersey E drew 5-5. Tom Morgan and Sam Elliott won 2 and Tom Marsay won 1.. Marsay and Morgan lost the doubles to Massey and Taylor-Woodrow. Elliott came back from 2-1 down to beat Taylor-Woodrow 3-2 in the only match that went to a 5th game.
B. & B team was Paul Massey(3), Tom Taylor-Woodrow(1) and Roy Southgate.
Jersey Ladies A lost 7-3 Kay Lefebvre and Nicola Dukes both won one. and together won the doubles 12-10 in the 5th game. Carol Milnes and Zoë Quinn both lost 2 and the doubles.
The B.&B team was Maria Taylor-Woodrow, Karen Henry, Sandy Simpson and Sarah Whithorn.
Jersey Ladies B lost 10-0. Juniors Kelsey and Jodie Le Maistre and Helen Liron lost all their matches to Jackie Rice, Ann Fereday and Shiela Magee. Helen and Jodie both won a game and other games were close.
Wednesday, Oct. 8th
The playing order was changed to give different opponents.
Jersey A won 8-2. Craig Gascoyne won two, Bruce Gallichan beat Jason Tendler 3-2 (13-11 in the 5th game), Eugene Ellis lost 3-2 to John Callcut and beat Colin Webber 3-0 . Trevor Lefebvre beat both Webber and Calcutt 3-1. Gallichan / Gascoyne won their doubles 3-0 while Ellis / Lefebvre won 11-9 in the 5th game after being 2 games down.
Jersey B drew 5-5. Josh Band and Luke Walker both won 2 and Max Tupper won one. Band and Walker lost the doubles 3-1. The B. & B. team was Andy Meads (1), Cliff Keen and Robin Pretty(3).
Jersey C drew 5-5. Scott Cassin and Hugo Tupper both won 2, Cassin coming back from 2-0 down to beat Ron Stracy. Sam Motto lost his 3. Cassin and Tupper won a close doubles 11-9 in the 5th game. B. & B. team was Steve Collins (2), Keith Hartridge (1) and Ron Stracy (1).
Jersey D won 6-4. Mark Liron and Tom Marsay both lost to Paul Massey and beat Hugh Slater, Liron by 3-2. Liron / Marsay won the doubles 3-2.
Tom Morgan and Malcolm Gallichan both beat Roy Southgate 3-0 and lost to Tom Taylor-Woodward 3-1. Morgan / Gallichan won the doubles 3-1.
Jersey Ladies A lost 9-1 Kay Lefebvre and Nicola Dukes both lost 3-2 to Gill Locke and both lost 3-0 to Maria Taylor-Woodward. They won 3-2 in the doubles against Karen Henry and Maria Taylor-Woodward after being 2-1 down. Zoë Quinn and Carol Milnes lost both singles to Karen Henry and Sandy Simpson. They lost the doubles 3-0 to Gill Locke and Sandy Simpson.
Jersey Ladies B lost 9-1. Helen Liron and Jodie Le Maistre lost both matches to Jackie Rice and Sarah Whithorn and lost 3-1 in the doubles. Emily Robins lost both matches. Kelsey Le Maistre lost 3-1 to Shiela Magee but beat Ann Fereday 11-9 in the 5th to her great delight and that of all the spectators.
The overall score on Wednesday was 34-26 Over the 2 days, Bat & Ball won 77 to 53 though the Jersey men won by 48-42. It was the first time that Jersey was able to field two ladies teams and the Junior ladies showed much promise playing opponents up to 50 years older than them. The Jersey Mens team showed greater strength in depth than before in winning the mens match overall. On this 42nd annual visit of Bat and Ball, the friendly competition was much enjoyed once again, with matches going past 10 pm on both evenings.
