APPLEBY Open Day – a great success!!
An action packed day (6th Dec 2014) with well executed demonstrations by our Development Officer and APPLEBY Academy Players. Robots prove to be as ever popular with the children battling to keep up with the balls shooting out. We welcomed well over 50 youngsters and parents throughout the day with kids from 16 different local schools attending the Geoff Reed Table Tennis Centre on Saturday. Free refreshments and biscuits were also provided for everyone.
All were entertained with a series of 5 demonstrations of top table tennis skills between Craig Gascoyne, Jordan Wykes, Chris Morshead and Luc Miller. The young players were particularly impressed with the power of Multi-Ball demo with balls being fired at players at very high speeds with varying placements.
We also had two table tennis robots rigged up and all of the children had the opportunity to play against them. Our Academy members and coaches hosted all of the guests helping them with advice on how to play by demonstrating on the 14 tables we had set out in the hall.
The young players also had the opportunity to try the JB Pop Up Ping Pong challenge- kids loved it. They had to try to score points by hitting the ball through various sized holes.
Barry Wykes, Table Tennis Jersey President said ” The Appleby Open Day was a great success , with many trying table tennis for the first time . It was wonderful to see the fun and enjoyment they all had. We hope they will come along to our weekly introductions sessions to the sport ”
Our junior beginner’s sessions on Thursdays and Fridays are just £ 1.00 which must make us the cheapest sport in the Island. All youngsters are very welcome to these sessions and just need to turn up on the day.
